Has anyone in your family ever commited a crime against you?

Has anyone related to you ever commitedd a crime against you? How did you handle it? The reason I ask is because several years ago, my husband was working for his uncle, who is a doctor, doing computer work. He wasn't treated very well or paid very well but he put up with it because we needed the extra money, plus it was family. But eventually things became unbearable when he found out that his aunt, the office manager, failed to take taxes out of his paychecks for an entire year. This is a felony in the United States; a pretty serious offense. We ended up having to pay lots of money to the government that we wouldn't have had to pay otherwise. We hadn't been married long and were pretty young so this was a big financial blow. And it started a chain reaction of my husband's family treating him badly and even turning the situation over on him. In retrospect, we should have reported his aunt and uncle to the authorities (they were also charging people and insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid for services they didn't provide, among other things). My mother-in-law had wanted us to keep quiet so as to keep the family peace, but it wasn't worth sacrificing my husband's self esteem. And the family peace didn't last long; this aunt and uncle eventually got divorced and filed for bankruptcy. So we were wrong in keeping quiet. Has anything like this happened to you? If so, what did you do about it? What would you do if it happened to you?
