Do you waste food?

Do you find that everyday you have to throw away some or the other leftover?Do you cook exactly the amount you require for yourself or your family?Do you forget if you keep some leftovers in the fridge only to find it a week later and smelling not so fresh, even a little foul?I would like to hear how you manage leftovers.

No , not at all, not me. i dont like wasting food, i am not at all in the favour of wasting. i cook the food according to its consumption. sometime a dish is made which is liked by everyone, i make a little more in quantity so that it carries on till night also and cover up that meal too. but i never cook anything that goes on and on and on....... a never ending food. if a food has gone stale it looses all its properties, then what is the fun to eat it. ,rather make fresh everytime, buy fresh, cook fresh and eat fresh. why to make one lot at a time and keep on repeating it every day it is soo boring. i cant eat the same food every day . if you have refigerator, that does not mean that you keep on piling up food inside and eat all that stale. refrigerators are best for milk and milk related products , it does not mean that if you are having it you fill it up with all food one day for the whole week and then eat everyday the same, buy making it hot, overcooking spoils all the goodness of food. it is in other form a waste what you are eating. you should alwayz cook that much , the quantity you can consume, if not in one go it can cover the next meal, but it should not be covering days and days and days after being eaten the first day when it was cooked.

I prefer fresh cooked food too.Mainly,I cannot digest food that has been cooked the day before even if I have put it in the fridge.which is why I have to throw away some small amounts of leftovers.I try my best bot to waste but sometimes I just don't know what else to do with it..I don't eat food which has been cooked 3-4 days before..but sometimes I put the leftovers in the fridge and then we have a series of parties, or dinner invitations..sometimes like on a long weekend or if the eweather is good,we go out and eat out too..so those leftovers are never consumed..I will definitely improve my leftover management.

No, we never waste food. We always eat leftovers within a short time, either just heating up or recreating them into a different dish.

Recreating another dish using leftovers is a very good idea.I often do that but since my husband does not generally like dishes made out of leftovers, I make them only for myself.

For the most part we don't waste food. Any leftovers we have usually get eaten for lunch the next day. My hubby often takes leftovers with him for lunch at work. I'll eat leftovers for lunch too. About the only time we'll just throw food away is if we've tried something new and we didn't like it. That doesn't happen very often though.

I have the same problem ..I like to try out new dishes as does my husband. But sometimes we don;t like it and then the whole thing goes waste..I would gladly recycle it into some other dish if only my husband would agree to eat it!:)

I try to cook exactly what we will need at the time that we are eating. There are some dishes that I do over make what we will need. These are usually things that the children love to eat. I will save those for us to eat later in the week sometimes. There are also a few times when I have over made food because not everyone was as hungry as they thought. These are foods that we don't think taste as good leftover. I food those to our dogs. There isn't a bit of food that goes to waste because if the humans don't eat it then the dogs will.

I am glad that you have dogs who will eat your leftovers.I really hate wasting any food and whenever I have to throw away any food, even a teaspoonful,it makes my heart cringe because so many people in third worl countries donot even have access to food.I think I have to learn to manage food more efficiently. Thanks for responding!

It is great that you can give the leftovers to animals in your backyard..I wish I had some animals like that.In India,we generally have cats of dogs to which we give away leftovers.I really cannot digest stale food, which is why I try to cook exact amounts but sometimes there are still leftovers..

if the ammount of leftover is big then it goes into the fridge and I eat it the day after (and no I don't forget) if it's not much it goes to the dog. I usually make as much as I eat especially pasta or meat. Vegetables... I make them for at least two days. Normally I don't waste anything because there's no leftovers but if it happens and if they're good re-heaten then I eat them again (or as I said they go to the dog so anyway I don't waste anything except for bread which doggie doesn't eat!)
