Is Yoga just for bendy people?

I've been practicing Yoga for three months now and while I do feel the benefits, both from the postures and breathing exercies, I can not imagine that I will ever be able to get into some of those awkward positions. Programmes and manuals reckon that I will in time but I can't quite believe it. Admittedly, when I first started I couldn't even touch my toes yet now I can - perhaps it takes years of practice. Has anyone else tried it and improved flexibility to a great extent?

Sorry, I can't help you there. I never tried yoga, but from what I've heard it can be a very relaxing and serene experience. Have you reached that stage yet?

Hi Mizrae - yes, I suppose I have experienced relaxation and serenity but only through the pranayama exercies (breathing techniques) - I'm doing okay with the postures but find that I struggle to get into the awkward positions, don't think I'm made for that kind of bending! Or maybe I'm wrong, time will tell - or if anyone has any experience of this here then that'll keep me motivated too. Give it a try though, it does have a lot of benefits, you only go at your own pace anyway and it's not compulsory to do all the postures, only what suits you. It'll be nice to believe that you can achieve more though.
