This Show Brings Tears To my Eyes Every Week

I don't watch much TV, and I particularly don't watch or am "into" reality shows, but there is one show that I watch and it always brings tears to my eyes. I'm talking about the show "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" The program is centered around some family who is in true dire straits..they've endured a lot of hardships and are living in homes that are so pitiful it's a wonder the home hasn't been condemned as unlivable--the family usually doesn't have much money to better their lives or situation and get in contact with the Extreme Makeover team--of course, there must be a lot of stories and only a few are probably picked at random to have this wonderful opportunity to begin their lives over again...but like I said, I get real teary eyed over this show...it's so bittersweet and I feel so good for these people to start life anew Sometimes watching this show makes me appreciate what I have--it may not be much either..but it's more than these people have had. Here's a link to their homepage:http://abc.go.com/primetime/xtremehome/index.html This page is a link to how one can apply themselves for the possible chance to start life again in a new home and a new beginning http://abc.go.com/primetime/xtremehome/casting.html Do you watch this show? What are your feelings about it?

I know exactly what you mean. I have yet to miss one episode. It is wonderful people such as these that make life better not only for the deserving families but the rest of us in general. I would love for them to do a home in a community close to me so as I can be a part of it . They put so much of themselves into each one of the homes that they build and decorate. I don't know how they do it with out breaking down in tears through out the whole process. Do you think that Ty's run in with the law is going to effect the show in anyway? I truly hope that for the better of us all that this show has a long running season:)

Well I hope that Ty's run in with the law doesn't affect the show..but then all can make mistakes...It shouldn't as his personal life has nothing to do with the show That first link didn't come out right so re-posting http://abc.go.com/primetime/xtremehome/index.html

Oh exactly it should not have but yet it seems to be a trend within the "star"life that even there personal life is not personal..One sad situation always has a happy ending. Hopefully he gets back on track quickly;) He really is a good guy. Have you ever gone to the site to share your reaction to the home with the new homeowner? I have thought about it many times but the tears just keep coming.

I know wasn't that something else, 9 children lost their father and main supporter. The mom was taking on all the responsibilty herself, and trying so hard to do a good job at it. Between her catering business and dance they are a very deserving family and I wish them nothing but well and love always:)

I love this show and I cry almost every time. i love to see people that are having a hard time get help, and the help they get is really extreme. The people working with this show must also feel good about themselves when they see the happiness they bring into peoples lives. I am usually not a big cryer - but this show really gets me going =)

I try to catch Extreme Makeover Home Edition every time it comes on. I really enjoy watching that show, and I do have to admit that even I get teary eyed watching it. Not really sad, just tears of joy. Whoever came up with a show like that really had some form of a brain upstairs. Not only that it really is helping people that need it. Now that's reality TV. Shows the truth about how some people live. Not like the Real World, or what have you. I wish there was more reality TV shows out like Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

I found Wife Swap to be a joke. I could never understand that point of switching families for a day or week, or however long they did it for. Super Nanny, well I don't think there was a need to show people that didn't know how to raise their kids in the correct fashion. Those parents who called on the lady just needed to take some unpublicized parenting classes. The Bachelor and Bachelorette shows sometimes entertained me, but they were a joke as well, you can't really find true love in that fashion, and to me it was like having 25 or so boyfriends/girlfriends to flaunt around, than at the end of the show publicly smacking them in the face when they didn't get picked. And for the most part you know most of the people that came on those shows were only there to have a chance to get at that person's money. Most reality TV these days is nothing but a major joke to me. They really don't portray life as I thought reality TV was suppose to. It's sort of sad really when fictional TV shows such as: CSI, Law & Order, Family Guy, The Simpsons, American Dad portray life better than a reality TV show. Granted Family Guy, The Simpsons, and American Dad are all cartoons and place a humorous twist to what life is really about, but they still make more sense to me than the crap they put on reality tv shows. I was hoping when tv show producers saw how well Extreme Makeover Home Edition did that it would change the course of reality tv, but so far nothing has compared to it, in its way of showing how actual life can be for some people.

I wish there were more shows like too...most reality shows are just too dumb for words..like Wife Swap, Supernanny...or and those Bachelor ones...where the bachelor is trying to find a wife and he has to select only one out of say 25 women...ah, gee, what a tough life...hehehe

I watch this show, too. A couple of months ago they did a house in Kansas city, that is not far from my hometown. The news channel followed their progress and everything. They do have a lot of wonderful gifts to give people in need. Some of the time it is really almost too good to seem true. I really enjoy watching the stories and I hope that those new homes really help those people. Some of the houses that they show before are awful and some of them house so many people that it is a wonder that they can all fit in the house! I am glad that they do show the stories.

I watch it. I love it! I love to see how bad the house looked before they started and then see how great it is after. I wish my family could have a house like on the show, but we aren't as bad off as the families they have on there.

THis show has been aired here recently in teh uk and I think it is great too. It is lovely to give a family without much teh gift of a nice hoe which is something that so many people take for granted, it is a shame that not all the people who write in can be helped but for those lucky few it must be like a dream come true for them.

I love it to. I watch it every week and if I'm not here my DVR records it and I watch it later. I just saw the episode with a family (a dad and 5 boys) who lived in Camden, NJ. The dad started an organization called "The Single Fathers of Camden". I'm going to donate $5 a month to them because they train dads not to be like my biological one and to stay involved in their kids lives.

I saw that episode too. I had an "absent" father too. My folks got divorced when I was very young, and the two families, my father's and mother's remained connected, but then after the age of ten it's like he disappeared from earth or something and never heard from him again

Hi pye, I feel the same way as you. Once in a while I will watch it, and when I hear the story of the families hardship, see their house being built, and then their reaction to seeing the finished product I just about cry myself. PurpleTeddyBear.

I don't watch the show, or much tv at all. these kind of shows just don't do much for me, especially that kind of show.....they can help maybe one family in a year, the family would have to be extremely lucky to get chosen. I also can't help but think that there is an ulterior motive hidden in there somewhere.

Tsk, tsk...sumofalltears....sounds like there's bit of the cynic in you...I really don't think there's any ulterior motive involved.
