The Star Rating

When I hit 100 posts and got my first star, I had a 9 rating. After a week or so I saw that it went up to a 10 (yay me .. hehehe), now today it dropped back to a 9. I have seen post of people complaining about their star rating when it went from a 10 to a 9, or a 9 to an 8. I ask why did the rating drop? I have an idea why mine drop, mostly because at times I am a very stubborn person and I won't hold back on my opinions, so I'll get people who don't like them and either won't get rated or risk a - rating. To that I say "So What?" I am here enjoying myself on the boards, I am posting how I feel on discussions that interest me. I have ruffled feathers in other boards and survived. I am not going to blatantly attack another, but I won't hold back on the discussion. I will keep getting rated the way I do, and am thankful that I am writing posts that people enjoy and can relate to. I would do it even if I didn't get rated. I do it on boards that have no ratings or payments. Now that I've gone on my short rant, What do you think of the star ratings and does it bother you if your rating slips a point or 2??? and why?

I had a 9 since I reached my 100 posts. A few days earlier my rating dropped to 8. I was telling to myself that rating is not that important. Though, when I noticed that drop, I kept pondering about which posts did lead to this change. A few hours later, I got my red star back again. The good thing about having a 9 instead of a 10 is that you are always willing to do better to improve your rating and get 10. Once you got 10, then you are at the top (still you will need to keep posting quality responses and discussions in order to preserve your position). I have the impression that most members on mylot have 10s now.

The star rating does not particularly bother me, I think I have a 10 at the moment, I did get a surprise a few days ago when it dropped to an 8 an hour after it had been a 10 then I saw that everyone who had a 10 had dropped to an 8. I don't notice the star rating as much as I note the star colours, which is pretty weird. I get used to seeing a particular colour star next to my mylot friends' names so when it changed everyone to yellow stars or otherwise it kinda surprised me. It was all sorted out later in the day - some sort of glitch or something but I saw people writing in discussions that they were going to leave myLot over this which I thought was a bit extreme. As long as you're enjoying the site and being honest there's no reason you should be too fussed about the star rating. We can't expect everyone to agree with every single opinion offered on here and some people give negative ratings just because they don't agree with a response or comment. Personally I post honest responses like you and if that earns me a negative rating then so be it :)

Congratulations to you on achieving your first star.Thats an awesome rating and offcourse it went high as well.According to me rating depends on lots of factors and it fluctuates depending on your responses. I have witnessed many users talking about the decline of their ratings, but to be frank a fluctuating rating teaches us a lot. It indicates that we got to be organised in our views and opinions and moreover we have to be fair enough to judge others. I appreciate your confidence and determination on pursuing with your posts eventhough you get rating or not. All the best !!! Keep posting and keep mylotting !!! cheers !! Sadanand

I do notice my star rating, but have not noticed it fluctuating at all yet. Like you, I am of the opinion that if you need to say something, then just say it. I don't go out to offend others, but need to put across the point of view I get from my experience in the subject I am interested in. That way, I can impart my knowledge to others and possibly learn from their response too. When it comes to what others say to me, if I react, I recognise that I need to look within myself to see what is going on. The words and opinions of others are just words, and if I perceive an attack, I must be creating that experience, for what I am reading is just words on the screen. I would be lying if I said it wouldn't bother me if my rating slipped to 2. It would either mean a glitch on the system or the majority of my readers would feel attacked or offended by what I had written. Once I knew what it was though, I would then be in a better position to let it go. Again it's a question of, what am *I* making of it? Having both participated in and run encounter groups, where people get to share exactly what they're feeling, I have realised that you cannot be hurt by another's opinion unless you deem it to be so youself. :-) Strange, that there's something that came up in meditation this morning that I shared on my blog.. "When I can detach from all that I value, then I can realise true self. Nobody said it was going to be easy!"

only yesterday i got a star rating of 9, and i was sooo happy. today when i saw that it had dropped back to 8, i was pretty disappointed, not exactly knowing why the change occured. but now when i read your responses, i found out that you ought to have quality responses. i am waiting very anxiously for the rating to rise. when i reached 100 i got a 6. and then when yesterday when it turned 9 , you can guess my happiness. anyways, ill work harder for it . and stop bothering so much about stars, cause i cant change them myself.

The star is often changing according to your qualified responses. If you post qualified responses, it will get up and up, or it will get down and down. So if you want to keep your star, you have to post qualified response, at least 6 lines. The more stars you get and the more earning you make, so let's work hard to post qualified responses and I hope you can get a blue star soonly. Good luck. Do you reach to your minimum payout now? I will reach it today, but I don't know how to change paypal to my money, I'm from China, and I have no way to change dollars to RMB, Do you know some company can do it ?

I have been a perpetual 9 so congrats on your 10 no matter how temporary, lol. I don't care about the stra thingy really, when people actually use it, negatively at times, it should still be useful, but someone will be whiny and all the rules change, so why bother being able to use such a thing?I think it's more useful just to see how long someone's been here.

Just keep on doing what you are doing. Honestly does the star really matter, as long as you are enjoying what you are doing and being true to yourself. I wouldnt worry at all about the rating.

I am happy I do have a star. It was a big event to hit 100 posts. But otherwise it is not quite so important. Yeasterday my star was still yellow 8, when everybodies stars dropped I had a grey star and today my star is a red one. I can not make my opinion dependend on how other mylotters will rate me. But, yes it was nice to get to a red star this morning.
