Best places to get a tattoo....

My 18 year old niece just got her first tattoo and it's gorgeous. She has it on the calf of her leg and I think this is the first time I've ever seen one there. My brother said the tattoo artist told them that since it's one of the meatiest parts of the body it wouldn't be as painful to get. After thinking about it for awhile I think he's probably right. I can't imagine getting a tat on an ankle or wrist where there are so many bones. You know those have to be painful spots. Do you have any ideas where other good places on the body would be to get one, keeping in mind we want to make this as pain free as possible? lol....

the thing is, a tattoo is forever. so choose it where you want to see it, not where you think it will be less painful. the pain is only for as long as it takes to do it. the tattoo, in the right or wrong place, is for the rest of your life. when the pain is gone you don't want to think "I wish I'd had it there instead" mine is on my lower back, which is said to be one of the more painful places. it didn't hurt much, and I love where it is. I want one on my ankle and one on my hipbone. both meant to be painful places, but that's where they will look nice.

I especially like a tattoo on a female's ankle. Since I usually wear ankle bracelets in the summer this would be a permanent one wouldn't it?

HaHa....think again.I have a tattoo on my calf and let me tell you it hurt.It really depends on the person and their pain tolerance.I mean it didn't hurt bad enough for me not to get the tattoo....but still it hurt. The best way I can describe the pain would be like someone cutting you with a razor blade...at least that's what it felt like to me. Now this won't stop me from getting another one.....so it wasn't that bad for me. You can ask hundreds of people and get a different answer everytime....so it really depends on your pain tolerance. Plain and simple....a tattoo is not going to be pain free. If you are really thinking about getting one....find yourself a really good artist and talk to them. They will be able to give more answers and may even be able to ease your fear of the pain involved.

i think calf of the legs is a good idea. However, I like it at the back of the neck sideways, a very small one. It looks cool. I don’t like overdone tattoos. For me, it has to be small, simple and appealing. Thanx.

Small and simple is definitely the way to go. I'm not sure about the neck though...hmmmm

My first tattoo was of a dolphin, i got it on my lower back over at the side where there was a bit of meat as the guy said it wouldnt hurt as much. It didnt hurt too much. After i had my son, i got a nother tattoo of his name in chinese on my lower back going across the spine. I didnt think it hurt as much as i thought it would have but considering i had only had a baby, i dont think anything can hurt that much. lol

haha...I guess I'm lucky, I had 3 babies and never had a lot of pain. To me a getting a tattoo would be horrendous pain! I can't imagine getting one across the spine. There's definitely too many bones there.

My tattoo is on my left shoulder. I guess I'm wierd because it tickled a little. It felt like a massage. Plus its in a good spot because it can easily be covered, and I don't have to have it exposed at my work place, and around older people that look down on tattoo's. They don't even know I have it. But when I want to show it off, its easily done as well.

I have a tatoo on my azz. I got the tatoo about 12-13 years ago. As far as I remember, it didn't hurt that bad. I had a friend come with me so it was fun to be able to talk with her while I was getting the tatoo. I love my tatoo even now after 13 years!

I think I would be too scared to get a tattoo. I have a strong pain threshold, but just seeing the needle will make me faint lol. If I ever were to get a tattoo, I think I would get a barcode on my wrist. Not sure why and I highly doubt it will happen lol

Yes, I think that the spot above your bum is a good one as it's meatier. I have one there and one on my shoulder blade and omg the shoulder blade one HURT. The other hurt too, but not as bad. I am thinking of getting one on the inside of my calf when I have my baby. I was thinking of getting my hubbys name and some type of oriental letter or something to go with it. I am glad to hear that doesn't hurt too bad!!! I also think a toe or finger would hurt terribly although some look really cool. I would say also the arm would't hurt much. Hubby has one on his upper arm and he said it didn't really hurt at all.

Well, I have 3 tattoos. One on my lower back, one on my upper back (shoulder area) and one on my foot. The one on my foot hurt the worse but it was done in like 5-10 minutes compared to the one on my lower back that took an hour. I've heard that tatts on the arms don't hurt that bad but I wouldn't know.

I have a skull on my back/right shoulder (after my childhood nickname) and a cross with other religious symbols (Islam, Taoism, Hinduism etc.) on my back/left shoulder. The hurt like hell. When he was doing the outlines it felt like he was using a knife... Also, I'm terrified of needles. I have a tattoo guy in Georgia near my cousin's house, so he only work on me when I am down there. That being said, when I go see my cousin later this year I will see my tattoo guy... There are 2 more tattoos I want to get...

I have one on each one of my calves and i didnt find that they hurt that bad my hubby on the other hand said it hurt like heck and chewed through a wash cloth while i was doing his. I have one on my wrist and i am heavy so my wrists are meaty and it hurt on the underside but the rest wasnt that bad. my mother said that the one that she got on her wrist hurt like heck. She didnt think the one on her shoulder hurt i have found that most people dont think that the shoulder hurts that bad. My hubby got one on his beely around his naval and thought that the lower you got the more it hurt but the top tickles him more then hurt. He has one on his back that pretty much hits every point and hesays the worst part was on his spine. he has them all over his arms and i dont think any of them really hurt him maybe the one under neath on the whiter part hurt just a little.

I have one of my shoulder. It didn't hurt at all for me, but the tattoo artist said some people experience alot of pain in that area. One of the girls I used to work with had one on her neck, and I just can't imagine doing that, I know it had to hurt! I've seen alot of girls with tat's on their lower back too, that might not be as bad.

The thought that tattoos over bone are painful is a common misconception. What is actually true is that tattoos hurt the most over pressure points, you can find charts of the human bodies pressure points quite easily on the internet. I've had a few tattoos, and the one I found the least painful was on the outsides of my lower back. The most painful one I have had is on my foot. You have to think, this tattoo will be on you for life! It is worth a couple of hours of pain for it! x

I got my first tattoo on my lower back, but off to one side. I thought that would be a good spot, because I had a little extra flesh there. As it turns out, that isn't necessarily a good thing. If you want to get a less painful tattoo, you want to get one on a location that has some substance (i.e. muscle) beneath it, but not directly over bone. The calf would be a great place, I think!

The picture on my profile is what I asked someone to help me design for my ideal tattoo. Unicorns are my thing...love them, the rose well the most beautiful flower out and my initial is on the unicorns rump. My designer threw in the girl so she is possibly obsolete. My plan is to have this done within this year...only 6 months to go...lol I'm yet to decide my ideal place, prob the top of my arm or going over my shoulder. I would like a celtic design on my lower back.
