While writing my last discussion i felt another one coming =) I usually pay with cash - but sometimes I forget to withdrawl money and then i will use my debitcard... I prefer to pay with cash, coz I feel as if i have more controll over the money then - but it is handy to also have a plastic card to pay with coz it doesnt feel liek real money... So what do you prefer? How do you usually pay and why?

I rarely ever have cash on me. I will pay with a check (when I can find a place to take one), my debit card or a credit card. I try not to use my credit card unless it is an emergency or for purchasing something for my business (I am a ceramist and sell my ceramics on my webpage). Most of the time I use one of my debit cards (I have my bank one and one that my child support went on when I was actually getting child support ex quit paying in January).

Oh I forgot to add that I find it easier to handle and keep track of my spending when using the debit or checks than with cash. With cash it just seems to slip through my fingers and I have no idea where it went to.

my dad before asked me if i want to have an extension of his credit card. he was surprised when i said "no" to his offer. i know how mad i can be when it comes to shopping. so, just to not overuse my dad's kindness, i declined the offer. i always pay in cash. it's my choice to. at times when i want to go to malls, i bring in money enough for me to spend and i even leave my ATM card behind since i might be tempted to just withdraw money when i want something more. it's a good way to discipline myself, too.

yehey! so, you're saying that i am a good shopper! hihi. thank you. if i were only an opportunist, i could have taken my dad's offer to have a credit card extension under my name. but as you've said, it's dangerous and so, i'm glad i did not take it.

hehehe, yeah if you are a good shopper you better not have a creditcard. Smart thing to leave the debitcard as well. Here u can apply in most stores for their creditcard though, THAT is dangerous.

One will rarely catch me with cash, I never have it. I use my ATM card everywhere. I hate keeping up with paper dollars. I NEVER write a check, I bounce them all ♥ so I use my card. When I don't have any more money - it tells me and I don't use it anymore.

I own plastic, just so I can build my credit. I prefer to use cash, I figure that if I need it I will pay for it in the form of cash. I can't see why I should make a bank rich off of interest. I have used my plastic in the past, it's easier to pay with cash and be done with it. Great discussion!

that's what i told my dad, too. he's making the bank rich because of the interests he's also paying per month. instead of making the bank make work for your money, my dad seems to be working for the bank. he realized it after sometime and stopped using the plastic thing.

I like paying with my card rather than cash. I find that If I have Cash on me I am more likely to spend it faster and on stuff I dont need rather than with my credit/debit card. I like checking my account online to see what I can cut out of my budget and if I spend cash I can't see if it's useless or not!!! A pair of shoes is never useless but sometimes not needed!!! :)

I'm strictly a "pay in cash" kinda gal...I dont own a C.Cd and I dont use my bank card here in the U.S cause the service charges are ridiculous..I do own cheques but I've not written a cheque in an easy 10 yrs or so LOL (I hate cheques)...

Here they do not charge you for paying with debitcards. I also do not own a creditcard - I have destroyed them all and are still fighting to pay them all back =)

It depends on a situation, usually I pay in cash when its my payday but sometimes if Im out of cash I prefer to use my credit cards or debit cards. I do sometimes forget to withdraw thats why I prefer to use cards for fast transactions. But now I realized that its really good to pay in cash rather using cards for it has many interests. Interest sucks we to suffer to pay for it.

I prefer to pay in cash as I'm most comfortable with money on hand. And just like you, I feel a sense of control when holding money than doling out plastic in credit or debit card form. Also, I feel something might go wrong anytime and if the card won't work and I don't have money at hand that would be very embarrassing. It happened to me once with a debit card. It so happened that the bank was offline that time. Good thing I still had money to withdraw in my ATM, otherwise I was not able to make the purchase.

Hello,marie2473,i prefer to pay in cash because i do not usually spend much when i am shopping,so there is no point to use the debit/credit card if you are buying something for ten or twenty dollars,it is more time consuming as i have to swipe the card and press the pin numbers as well,I am too lazy too do this:P. I will never use debit.credit card when i am buying things at some small shops as i am afriad my personal information from my card will be lost, may be i worry too much.:P

In my case, I prefer to use my Smart Money Card to pay all the groceries I have purchased in the mall. This way I will earn more loyalty points just by using them in my purchases. Those points may be converted into a prepaid load or load wallet. So instead of paying cash directly to the establishments, I deposit my cash into Smart Money Account. But of course, there are some times when I have no time to deposit the cash to my account. In this case I will have to pay all my purchases in cash.

i pay in cash when the amount is less than 50 bucks..above that i usually use my credit card. i don't like to bring so much cash with me. to me paying by credit card is rather convenient hehe..and it's almost the same as using cash because at the end of the day, you gotta take out money from your bank account to pay your credit card bill after all. just use it wisely and don't overspend ;)

i usually pay using my card because as you said it does not feel like real money:P i don't know where we get this notion but hey, it's what we feel right? but i try to pay the full amount i charged the following month. i track my expenses and my due dates too. i hate it when my card charges me with financial charges, LOL! so i really take tab of all my charges, i have a spreadsheet for this so i don't forget anything:P

When I'm at school, I tend to pay with my debit card more. I'm away from home, so both my bank and the ATM's bank charge me $2...which prevents me from wanting to withdraw money often. If I do have cash and I'm only buying a little, I use that. When I'm at home, my parents pay for pretty much everything, so I mostly use my debit card, since I don't really buy anything small. I do tend to make sure I have a little cash with me for small purchases though.

I tend to only have credit cards on me because my husband always runs off with my cash. Now that he is away I have gone back to cash as much as possible. My credit cards have all that cash back so I do like to use it. As long as I can pay it all off I'm makeing money by using the thing, and it's all protected my my card company. I real careful with credit cards anyways.

Hello marie. I prefer to pay in cash. I used credit card mostly for grocery stuff. Credit card is certainly a temptation we can't resist. Whenever I have enough cash with me, I usually left my credit card at home. I don't like to deal with a high billing statement by the end of the month, LOL!

I tend to keep a certain amount of cash with me all of the time so I can do random bits of shopping, but in general if I buy something for over £10 I will pay by debit or credit card, it's very quick these days with chip and pin and I know I don't overspend. I always pay off my credit card balance in full each month so I don't end up paying interest to these companies who rely on people NOT paying their full balance each month so they can charge ridiculous amounts of interest. Obviously if I'm buying a sandwich or newspaper I would pay with cash :)

Right on the spot there. The companies are relying on you NOT to pay at the end of the month and there are so many people that get stuck and end up just paying the interest each month and not anything of the debt...

It is quite common for us here to pay almost everything with a pincard/debit card. A have some money cash for just in case they don't accept payment with card. In a way, I found it easier as I don't have to run for an ATM machine everytime I need to buy something nor have many cash in my wallet. For me it is also a lot saver when my wallet got stolen I won't loose a lot of cash money, while card you can get new ones by report them to bank that authorized them.

I normally pay with card unless that option is not available or the amount is too little. We have a reward point scheme yes so why not? I don't pay extra and I get to redeem some freebies later on.

of course almost everybody wants to pay cash. But when there are times that you ran out of it, and especially in cases of emergency, the plastic card comes handy. But as much as possible, i control my spendings. If i don't have cash I stay away from stores. If it's not something important, i'll just wait. It is very easy to swipe cards but the interests that comes with it will make us frown. We need to be wise in spending.
