“Some day” Society. Do you postpone anything?

We are living in modern age, when people want to have more and collect as much as possible. Some people are just living with what they have and some are hopping for better. Most people are making plans for tomorrow, postponing joy as connected with specific amount of money or special relationship. I have heard that so many times. Many people are hopping, that they are going to start living next day. Many people postpone life to next day, next month, next year. “Tomorrow I am going to loose weight; tomorrow I am going to be rich” My time is here and now, regardless of my location and financial situation, because today will never happen again … … Do you postpone anything for “tomorrow”, what is it and why?

Yes .. of course .. there are many things I would quite like to do .. but know I'd find it all too hard .. so it's on my wish list .. but unlikely to ever get done .. One of those things is 'find a boyfriend' .. hehehe ... I know I won't .. it's all too difficult .. I don't want to get hurt again .. and quite frankly I rather enjoy life as it is right now .. But if a nice man did 'drop into my lap' .. I dare say I wouldn't turn him away ...

i hope you'll meet your partner one day. that's one way of dealing with where you are now. true love is hard to find and so, it's better to just enjoy your life at the moment without a boyfriend. and when it's the right time for love to find you, it will come to you expectedly.

Hmmm .. I really don't think I have room for a man in my life at the moment .. I'm too contented .. far too selfish .. and why on earth would abny man want to put up with my fibromyalgia syndrome symptoms every day .. Maybe in another 10 years or so .. :o)

Think about that perfect man falling from the sky, right into your lap. If you say to yourself you won't, then you won't. If you start thinking in terms of I can, then all possibilities open up to you. And if you have failed in a relationship before, it is nothing more than a stepping stone to the next one. Your relationship didn't work because for some reason it wasn't right. But, the next relationship just could be the one you have been waiting for. Never give up on yourself. You deserve a great relationship just as much as anyone.

I always want to have today or the present moment to be living in. Sure, there are some things I put off until the next day, but in some ways they may be things I think I want or need but I am not really sure. And I look forward to some things in the future because I simply cannot create them in one day. Yes, I want to have a great relationship, but that takes finding someone to have it with. I might say today I will start my new relationship, but unless I find someone, it will have to wait for another day. All I can do is see myself being in a great relationship and then take steps to make it happen. But you don't meet this kind of person everyday. No, I don't collect things or need tons of possessions. Sure, I want to have some nice things, but even if I could afford to buy 10 vehicles, I only want one. And I don't need a TV and computer in every room. One of each is sufficient. If I could afford to buy new ones every few months, I wouldn't. The only security is that which comes from inside. So in a sense, if you don't have it right now, you will never have it. Because you can never have enough of outside things to be totally secure.

I think that being rich and insecure are mutually exclusive terms. There are many rich people and people not so rich that are secure within themselves. It depends on the person from the inside and not the outside.

I used to be an OMG, get that crumb off the floor kind of person. Now, after many friend's advice, I leave the crumb and go find something fun to do! I was obsessed with a very clean house, at all times. In the past year, though, I have changed my ways, and while I certainly don't live in filth, my housework is the major thing procrastinated. As for losing weight or taking a trip, there is no procrastinating! I just go for it! I went in debt to take a very nice Bahamas trip. If I waited for the money, I would have never gotten to go. I used "some day" for college, and the someday came along, I am there now, at 40. Lack of knowledge of student financial aid kept me in the "some day" mode. I am now just going after what I want, or I know I will never get it!

Being impatient, I don't like waiting. Everything has to be now or else something will happen tomorrow I will never be able to get it done. But this attitude made me lose focus sometimes and so I was taken advantage of and it cost me a lot of money also. Now I take my time and be more cautious. If I'm in doubt, I'll make my decision tomorrow or whatever. Some things I can't afford to lose, I need time to decide. If only I did this before I wouldn't lose so much, but then again, if I never fall I wouldn't know how to rise again.

that's one good learning i get from members of myLot today - " my time is here and now, regardless of my location and financial situation, because today will never happen again." thank you so much for sharing us this line. i am the kind of person who postpones schedules. and i admit, i hate the idea of it. i get to days when i regret postponing since i believe i could have done so much. there are times when i don't postpone anymore and i can say, my life had been better.

Sometimes I do postpone things, but not that often. I will usually postpone appointments...usually because I am tired or not feeling well..or just don't feel like going.....

I used to belong to the "someday" society, but over the past 10years I have lost so many people from my life, some so young that have passed away suddenly, I try now to make the most of my time and try and not put things off as I I am now well aware, ....tomorrow may never come.....

I understand what you mean, but I also know plenty of people who've gotten into big trouble with the 'live for today' approach, especially the 'regardless of financial situation'aspect. They use their credit cards or borrow money to get things (homes, vacations, TV, etc) that they don't have the money for, then they end up paying tons of money in interest fees or even going bankrupt. This has happened to a number of people I know.

I am not talking about shopping or money spending... It is about joy and life in general..... I don't use credit cards...I only spend what I have... but, if I want to go on vacations, I will go no matter what...maybe only 10 miles away and on camping instead of staying in fancy hotel.... Life is not about how much you have...

I must be honest- I do! Not all things- I try to live mostly in the here and now- but there are things I put off until “tomorrow”… like a new pool- the kind you keep up and don’t take down at the end of the season- I was all set on this year- then my company sold out and who knows about our future- so I put it off- My daughter was so bummed—we still have a big pool- 18 ft- but it’s not a permanent one- I said next year—when I know my job is more secure- Disneyworld—my sig. other won’t fly- I keep saying that my family will go to Disney- we were going to go this summer- my family, my parents, and my brothers family- He is in Iraq now- and will be for the next year- so again I put it off- I always have a reason to live in the “tomorrow” financial, or family- but one day I’ll surprise everyone and just say- the heck with it- let’s do it!

Pola, I firmly believe in the dictum - 'Tomorrow never comes'. I have kept this saying on my table..and keep glancing that..I do not wish to postpone anything for tomorrow, which I can do today...procarstination...I believe is a bad habit....we must do the things as quickly as possible, tomorrow we may not be alive to do that.

I've been in both the someday society and the get it done now financial group. It depends on what i'm doing. If it's fixing a leaky faucet or something then 'get it done now' If it's something that takes time to achieve I do so, just let it happen one step at a time. I like being proactive, but do enjoy taking my time. :) IF any of that makes sense.

sometime i put things off till tomorrow, it depend on what the things are , like bills i would do that more offten lol but like doing something i like, i wanna do it now, if i want something, i want it now. i try to follow this, yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, but today is the present, open it up and enjoy what is inside today.

YES I do. I am sad to say I live for the tomorrow. I try to do new stuff mind you so I dont just do it with ALL things. But at the same time, its easier to say "tomorrow" even if it might never come. Weird huh? I wish I wasnt this way and I do want to change. I just dont kow how or why.

Maybe you are luck of motivation...like you say, you don't know why...once you know....WHY...than you will know how... If I want to do something, I want it know...means I can plan it today for specific day...but at least I set my goals...

i do believe just like you that i should live the present and not the future or the past. But from time to time i do find myself postponing things to the next day or the next week, i know that when it happens it usually happens because of laziness or practical reasons. Sometimes i am in an enjoyable state and i do not feel like doing the thing that i am supposed to. And somtimes i just set my priority for the day, and there are one or two things that i do not have time to do, so i postpone it for the next day or week. But i do think just like you that we should live the present.
