Striving for Excellence

We all want to be as Excellent as we can be right? Well, here is something I am writing up off an old list of values from a class I took, that shared some tips on being an Exellent worker. First off.. Being on time.. Is a very important.. It is always good to show up at work early or on time.. Early by about 15 minutes is the best, it gives you time to calm down and get more prepared and focused to do your work better, especially after a long commute. Another is be well groomed. Having the appropriate dress and good hygience is definately important as many will see your Hygiene as a reflection of your attitude. So if they see bad hygiene they will automatically assume, you have a bad attitude, and no one wants to work with a bad attitude. Make sure you have wonderful attendance, we all know that illnesses happen, and just notify your supervisor the moment it hits preferably early so they have time to schedule another person in for your job. Do your best to be cheerful and happy. Working is easier when you are surrounded by people in a good and happy mood. So if you want to be surrounded by people who are cheerful while working, then do your best to present yourself as such, however do not over do it. I have yet to meet anyone who enjoys working with grouchy people, and it is good to exchange smiles as often as you can, and greet fellow coworkers. Be Honest and Truthful, and if you make a mistake, stand up to the responsibility of the mistake. State the error you made your reasons you did, and do not try to talk them out of the disciplinary action that may follow. Be respectful. Many do not realise how important this simple thing is not only in the workplace by the world around you. Respect can carry you to places you had never imagined, as well as earn you alot of respect in return. So be sure to do your best to be respectful towards your employer, customer, clients, and co-workers. Be inquisitive.. Do not ever assume... As assuming makes an ... *** out of you and me. When you are just learning there are no dumb questions. The only dumb question is the one you already know the answer too, but there is nothing wrong with getting a review if you are feeling unsure or uneasily. Do not steal, anything that belongs to you. This is another value that is good for work, and everywhere else. For people who are tired of carrying around keys and codes all the time, remember it is because of those who steal that we have to. When you struggle to get the caps out of items, and open CD or casette cases... It is because of the people who were stealing. Stealing only leads to more locks, more keys, loss of freedoms, and raising the expences for the work place, and for yourself. In the long run, everyone loses from it. Don't be a complainer, be a part of the solution and not the problem. Learn what you can do to improve the situation, allow the proper people to deal with the proper situations, and do not stick your nose in where it does not belong. Unless, this is allow at a certain time, do not make personal phone calls. The only time a personal phone call should be made is in an urgent emergency, no other time. When you are at work, you are there to work, not to play phone tag. Be a good listener. Listening is your best learning tool, if you listen well, and observe well what is going on around you, it can help prevent troubles, misunderstandings, and mix ups. No matter how big or small the job, Strive to do your best. Do what you can do as your best, Many small jobs lead to big things. If you practice good work ethics, and practice doing you best at all the small things, when you get into the larger jobs, and larger things, it will feel natural, and be easier to adjust as you will have already been used to doing your best. Have a positive attitude. Think of problems as opportunities to develop solutions, or as challenges to bring in more growth. Most workplace problems are not the end of the world, If you work hard to correct, or learn from the situation so you do not repeat the situation, and be positive and sure you are going to do your best not to mess up in the first place. You will have a less of chance of messing up. Use positive thinking. Instead I'll Try. I will do this. Instead of I can't do this. I am doing this. A little positive thinking can drive you a long way. Be a team player. Help others with they need it, and allow others to help you when you need it. Being a team player increases the chances of you all competing to improve your work together as a team, which can in term raise the work efficency, and lead to better services, better sales, which leads to higher wages. And of course, do not forget to have fun at work. If you look at the job as miserable and boring, then you will be miserably board. There is nothing wrong with integrating creative imagination into your work, and enjoying it, or even playing competitive game with your co-workers like who can raise to punch in their lunch card first! Or at lunch break who can describe their work day in the most interesting story, or what went on after work. Makes it more fun and exciting, and in a boring job the smallest creative things can lead to the most fun at times. And a small quote from United, Wisconsin Services, INC. "Enthusiasm is the propelling force necessary for climbing the ladder of success" I think many of the notes I wrote this from, may have also came from the same source. I jotted the notes down in highschool. - DNatureofDTrain

This is very good advice for young people and I hope many take it to heart. It seems most of the young people in the U. S. don't have much of a work ethic these days and could use this info, it certainly would make supervising easier lol
