Any scent and color ideas to add when you make your own soap or candles?

I am very interested in trying to make soap and candles. A friend of mine here on mylot posted some interesting discussions about some recipes. I am new to this: for now I know that I need to buy mold and soap base as well as some other ingredients. Have you ever made your own soap or candles? What do you use to add your own colors and scents? Thank you for your time!

My cucumber melon set - This is one of the set that I made. It has a candle, bath salts, bubble bath, a loufa soap, and a bar soap. These are so fun to make.
I make all kinds of soaps and candles. I would rather make soap because they are easier to make. I love to use blues and purples in my soap, and I like to use a mixed berry scent. My husband likes the yellow and lemon scent. I have made rose scent soap in pinks and reds, lavender in purple, cucumber-melon in greens, and baby powder scent in pinks and blues. I also make bath salts and bubble baths. I love to make them. I also sell them and the candles. Candles are more expensive to make though. I am so happy that you are interested in making these, I love doing crafts. I might post some of the different soap recipes if I get a chance.

I have never made soaps, although I would like to try them sometime. I used to make candles all of the time. My parents bought me a candle making kit when I was a kid and I really enjoyed it. Since then I got several more kits that are different and many more molds. I started using other items from around the house as molds. Usually I use the scents and colors that you can buy from craft stores that are made specifically for candles. When I was a kid we used to color our candles by melting small bits of crayon into them, but it does not color them nicely like the dyes meant for coloring them.

Thanks kelly! I never tried making candles or soap. But now I am really motivated so I need to gather information about how to proceed. Thanks!

I've made my own soap before. I don't like the melt and pour stuff... that's not really making soap. The real soap though is using lye which I'm kind of afraid of, so I started making fizzing bath bombs. There are lots of recipes online and places to buy fragrance and colors. You want to buy dyes specifically made for soap. Some natural ingredients will also give your soaps some color. Good luck.

I love making candles and have made a little soap in the past. If you're just making it for yourself, some of the craft store stuff might be okay, but I highly recommend some of the online suppliers out there. They have some great soap bases and more scents than you could imagine! There are also some great message boards for soap and candle makers. It's lots of fun!

Here's the best message board I've found. www.candletech.com and I'm accents over there too. For suppliers, one of my favorites is Bitter Creek. There's also Peak Candle Supply which is in Colorado (I think). One of my best sellers from Bitter Creek is Basil Sage Mint.

Hi VotreAmie just thought I'd see how your soap making is going. I found a new scent at Hobby Lobby called invigorating blend to me it smells like old spice scent. My husband really likes it. Let me know how it is going.
