Do you think that the Mayan prophecy of a pole shift where the Earth will flip over on it's side will happen in 2012?
What happens during such a shift is the skin of the earth literally moves. The North and South Poles will end up close to the equators and the equators will end up in the general area of the poles.

Sense I posted this discussion, I did a little Googling, and found that we are in the midst of a different kind of pole shift. It's called a ~magnetic~ pole shift. Our planet is undergoing significant changes and they are not man made, although our pollutive lifestyle is not helping Mother Earth.
There are two different kinds of pole shift on Earth. This website explains a ~magnetic~ pole shift. But in short, a geomagnetic or magnetic pole shift does not involve a shift in Earth's axis or a movement of landmass. But magnetically speaking, some scientists predict Russia can end up at a pole. Some believe that the magnetic field strength would decrease to zero during the transition time of the pole shift. This is gonna be one rough ride. However, this won't be the disaster a physical pole shift could be. Although that could happen too, if the Mayan calender is to be believed. They say the shift will hit the fan.

A physical pole shift could do a wipe out job on Humanity, or a good 90% of us.
The sun did a pole shift in 2001, and is due again to flip in 2012. It does that every eleven years, so it's no biggie. It is very active right now and is going to get increasingly active.
