criticisms against the Ms. Universe pageant and other pageants

I think this year's Ms. Universe pageant has been riddled with controversy foremost among which was the withdrawal of Ms. Sweden. She left the pageant because Ms. Universe allegedly discriminates against women. I am not a feminist activits but I have been raised in a family that frowned on Ms. Universe. My parents always said the women looked like cattle ready to be branded and sold in the international market. Despite my background though I cannot help but be curious about the results of the pageant. I can almost sense my departed family members slapping me on the head for secretly taking a peek at the pageant results through the internet. Do you think the criticisms levelled against pageants are valid? Do you feel that women are really being discriminated upon? Are you for or against pageants in general?
