Normal blood pressure is around 120/80. My blood pressure was 190/110 which I am told is secondary hypertension. If your blood pressure gets to around 200 the doc said you can have a stroke. Doc said that high blood pressure is often caused by narrowing of the arteries in and around the kidneys and recommended a renal dopler. I had no narrowing so I don't know why I suffer high blood pressure, other than my whole family does too (genetic?). I have been put onto medication to regulate my BP but I have read that reducing salt in your diet can help reduce blood pressure too. I had no symptoms of blood pressure. It was found at a routine reading when I went to doc with another ailment.

3 main causes of high blood pressure are arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis and restricting blood flow. High blood pressure is considered as "silent killer" because one who has this illness usually does not know that his/her blood pressure is higher than normal level. However if you want to check for hypertension here is a check list: High pulse rate Short breath Frequent sweat Hearing sounds in your ears Having pain with unknown cause Abnormally getting tired Feeling unfocused Stunning head There are 2 types of hypertension, primary hypertension and secondary hypertension. The first type is due to his/her long time inappropriate habit, for example, smoking, having too much salty food, usually having stress, letting oneself to become fat or overweight, etc. The treatment is just changing his/her lifestyle. The 2nd type is caused by other diseases, for example, abnormality of hormone, liver disease, and kidney disease. Then the treatment is to cure these diseases. 5 months ago I had hypertension but the doc didn't know the cause. He suggested that I should reduce my weight. I has followed what he said and I lost my weight from 85 kgs to 73.5 kgs. My blood pressure reduced from 160/100 to 140/90. So, I think I got the 1st type.
