Are you going on vacation this summer?

I seldom get to go on vacation and again this year I"m not planning on any. Usually when I do it's more of a spur of the moment thing because I've come into some extra money. If I do go away it's usually to visit my daughter in Long Beach, CA. and not a very long stay. Do you have plans for a vacation this year? Is it the kind where you have saved for it and it's finally here or a spur of the moment vacation?

I am leaving for San Francisco next month. Yes, we did save for it. I used all the Christmas money to buy plane tickets, and of ocurse I have been socking away a little ever since so we can see the sites. Pity about the high gas prices I keep hearing about. With the way they keep rising, there is no way you can budget for something like that.

Wow, that's so cool. I think I'll live vicariously through everyone else's vacation plans! You are so right about the high gas prices their ridiculous.

I am very big on taking a family vacation every year. I actually have a column in our budget where I add money every week in the vacation column. I would never go on a vacation that I couldn't pay for ahead of time~ who wants that kind of bill to come home to. This year I have come across a great deal~ it is either going to be a great deal, or a horrible vacation! We purchased a package to go to Ft Lauderdal for 4 nights and then take a 2 night cruise to the Bahamas. There are 5 of us going and the total cost was $800. This includes all food! I am very nervous about it as it was such a great deal, but thought it was worth a shot.

That does sound like one of those too good to be true deals. I'm looking forward to hearing how it works out for you. The Bahamas are great.

I hope it isn't a horrible vacation! Anyways, they said if we refer people when we get back, we will get $100 for each person who buys the vacation package. It will either be very profitable for us as we have lots of friends waiting to hear all about it, or it will be bad for this company as I will tell everyone our experiences either way.

The last vacation I took was a "mini' vacation. I was only gone over a weekend. With the cost of gasoline, food and hotel rooms, its an expense I just can't afford. I would like to take my kids to Disneyland, but I don't see it happening any time soon. I've tried to save money for vacations, but it seems like something always breaks down, or another expense comes up and any money saved has to be used for repairs. Its such a drag! Hugs!

It's tough when you have kids to get any vacation time, especially like you said when something is always breaking down. Disney will come eventually I'm sure. When their older and will enjoy it more.

Yes we are going to stay at a house on the beach from 24 June-July 1 and from July 8-15. I wish my hubby was coming so it's sort of bittersweet, it's the first time we've been on vacation without him. It isn't the kind we saved for though, it's like $300 for the house for the week and we just pay for everything else as it comes up, like food and incidentals.

I hadn't taken a vacation in over ten years. Earlier this month I went with my fiancee and her family to southern Kentucky for a three day weekend. We saved the money back so that we would have plaenty of money to spend on whatever we wanted while we were there. It was nice to be able to get away from everything here and to see some where I have never been before. We are hoping to take another small vacation next year to celebrate my son graduating from high school.

Kentucky is very nice country especially if you like country music! I like 3 day weekends, their so much cheaper than full vacations and you can take more of them.

In actuality as a family my wife and myself and our children have taken one vacation. Well maybe 2. One was just to go back to Michigan to see my wifes mother when the children were infants. So I don't classify that as a vacation. The other time was when the children were teens. We drove to Illinois to Six Flags Amusement Park. We spent 3 days there and had a blast. I can't take a vacation as I take care of my father and he won't go anywhere. He even hates to dress and get up to go to a Dr appointment. So once again it's another summer stuck in suburban Minneapolis Minnesota USA for me & my wife. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Nope, no vacation this year for me - no money and no time, I always love going camping during the summer but don't see anyway I'll even be able to do that this year. Am praying next year will be better and hopefully will be able to visit my sons in Colorado and California.

I had my mini vacation in March when the grand children came to visit. We stayed in Los Angeles, CA for 5 days and went to see the sites. I live about 80 miles from Los Angeles so it was a nice change.

My dad has been wanting to take hubby and me on a fishing trip. We finally agreed to go this summer. So, in about 2 or 3 weeks time, we'll be packing up the vehicles and hooking up the boat, and driving up to Devil's Lake, ND. If we can find some things for my kids to do, it should be a pleasant trip. Otherwise, they'll be bored, and I'll be frustrated, and not enjoying anything. Thank goodness we found a cabin that has a pool--at least it will keep them busy for a little while. :)

My family and I always take off a week in June. It is a combined doctor visit/vacation/business trip that we take every year. My kids have doctors appointments the first part of the week and the last part of the week my husband has a work related convention that he goes to. But he wants us to travel with him to those conventions. While he is in his meetings during the day the kids and I go to the pool, shop or just relax in our room. At night my husband joins us and we all go out to eat either alone or with some of the members of the convention. This year we will be traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I always enjoy the trips because I get to meet other people even while we are having family time together. Every two years my husband's union has a national convention which he is usually elected to be a delegate to. Last summer he and I went to Las Vegas. That was the first time our kids didn't get to go with us. The other places we have gotten to go to are Chicago and Honolulu, Hawaii. Next summer the convention will be in Boston, Massachusetts. :) SheliaLee

Well I have a family reunion in Vermont, but I'm not sure I consider that a vacation. I also might go to the Domincan Rebublic and stay there for a week and take spanish classes.

I would classify a family reunion as a vacation. Your getting away from home right? Plus you'll be enjoying yourself I'm sure. The Dominican Republican sounds great too.

No vacation for me. The only vacation I will get is if I get to go to Ohio to see my man in concert (Tim McGraw). With gas costing so much there just isn't much money to go around. I am not even sure if I will get to go to Ohio in July.

We're hoping to go on the Vacation that we unfortunately COULDN'T make at Easter because of our car. Hopefully if things keep as they are now, we'll be going for Canada day on July 1st. We're going to visit a friend of ours 8 hours North of here. The only issue is Gas prices. We have to drive up there because the kids will not sit on a bus for 12 straight hours without driving us and everyone around us crazy LOL. We usually go for 4 days because my partner can't afford a lot of time off work. We go for the long weekend, and he just misses one day of work that he takes as a sick day. We do it every year, the kids look forward to it and they love being up there with our friend.

There's that old gas pirce again keeping us at home...lol...I've been on a long bus trip where there were kids and they certainly don't like all the sitting they have to do.

I don't think I'll be going on holiday this year. Me and my boyfriend have to save up a lot of money for rent, so we aren't really in the financial situation to be jet-setting off to the luxurious places that we did before we came to uni. When I graduate, I am planning on doing a round-the-world trip, stopping at least once in every continent (apart from Europe, as that is so close to home!) I'd love to go to Long Beach, I've heard it is beautiful. x
