Why do we do that? There's no profit in it. WE are not going to get any favours from them. Then still why do we do that. why do we go sometimes go beyond the selfish attitude and help them selflessly?

I ahve never heard this question posed before... I don't think helping strangers is a bad thing. I do all the time. I love to help people out. I will go out of my way to help someone out. I'm sure people all have different reasons for this, some do it for religious purposes (because thie holy book or that scripture says to etc..) some people do it for personal gain such as claiming charitable donations on their income taxes, some people like to help others because it gives them something to do with their spare time, some people think they owe a debt to society for something that they did way back when, here are my reasons personally.... I help others because my heart tells me to. I like to see people smile, I like to help. I think we are supposed to, not because god says to or anything because I'm not religious. I just think that I treat people the way that I would like to be treated. I think as people we are just supposed to help each other. No questions asked. No reason needed.

I think I would have to agree with punky,it is not a hard thing normaly to help,I do it all the time, usually when a person is having problems with lifting,a flat tire or almost anything. As a semi retired locksmith,I don't always charge full price for opening cars or house locks, but that just depends on how I feel or if there is an environmental reason. It has never caused me any problems and I do enjoy the look of surprize and thanks they show. Blessed Be.
