For my son gripe water works every time. My husband has this silly trick, where he puts a paper towel over top of a glass of water and drinks the water thru the paper towel and it works every time for him, so one day I laughed and tried it, and it worked too. I couldnt believe it. What works for you?

I use to have to drink a glass of water upside down. How you do it is put your mouth on the opposite side of the glass as you normally woud and bend over than sip. Trying not to drown yourself is fun when you first try it lol. As I have gotten older I have earned how to relax my diaphragm using deep breathing and focusing on it. I can usually get rid of them within 5 or 6 breaths now. I'll have to remember the paper towel trick for the kids. I ahve 2 that seem to get them all the time, and not the quiet ones either lol.

I have never heard of that one before. I will have to try that next time. I usually hold my breath and then as soon as I take a breath in I take a drink of water. It usually works. cheers,

I used to laugh at him because of how ridiculous it looked, but once I tried it I was hooked. Holding my breath never worked for me

I've never heard of a paper towel over the glass to get rid of hiccups- I do all the tricks usually- Drink lots of water- sometimes my belly feels all jiggly and watery-- drink water upside down- hold my breath- and try to scare me- The drinking water upside down usually works the best for me- My daughter can usually get rid of them by holding her breath- I just read another post about drinking vinegar- Man I tell you vinegar is used for all kinds of things- I'll try the paper towel trick the next time!

my mom always put a little bit of sugar on a spoon and then filled the rest of the spoon with water. It always worked for us and I use the same trick with my kids. My sister heard this thing, you take a coin and put it in the persons hand and offer to buy their hiccups, that has worked too. Or there is the old hold your breath and swallow as many times as you can while holding your breath.

my friend taught me one that her grandmother ALWAYS swore by AND it worked, however, not sure if i remember it thoroughly enough, but it has something to do with a RED piece of thread, and you tie it in a knot and place it on your tongue i think? i can't quite remember...if anyone SERIOUSLY wants to know, i can ask my friend again how she does it...but she made me do it and it worked, i did it twice! i think these remedies are all mind driven in that if we find something we think that works, our minds tell ourselves it DOES and it's a game! mind over matter! our brains are amazing!!

Our home remedies include a good amount of water and if water fails to make its effect then a pinch of salt. Thats what our parents recommended to us and we are to our children and it works.
