Do you make eye contact with strangers?

I find that when I'm on the bus, or walking down the street and I meet eyes with a stranger (especially men), I'll make eye contact for a second and look away. It's almost like I feel that by holding eye contact, I'm going to be inviting unwanted advances or they're going to think I'm coming on to them by staring at them or something. Do you make eye contact? If not, why?

I try not to do it often. For me it's unusual. If I do make eye contact it feels weird for me, but it helps me to read just the type of person they are. Eye contact can be very nerving sometimes.

I do make eye contact...and sometimes if it lingers...I even exchange smiles. If a conversation ensues throughout your boring bus journey...its good. Of course if you wanna keep in touch thatz perfectly up to you. Such encounters of mine usually end with a...'Nice knowin ya. Have a nice day!'

It's good that you're not shy. I live in a large city and I've met a lot of nice people, but I've also met a lot of weirdos, and it seems like making eye contact or smiling only encourages them to come talk to me.

I'm more of a "glance and smile, then look away" kind of girl! lol! If someone seems friendly, I'll smile, but if they don't, I won't. I'm like you though, I don't want unwanted advances! lol!

Most of the time I won't have an eye contact with strangers. Maybe I am a shy person. And if I look at a stranger for some time, it seems it is a little bit impolite.

I don't usually make eye contact either. If I do, it's briefly, and then my gaze slides away. I just feel weird making eye contact with strangers.

Yeah. It has been a habit of mine to make eye contact with strangers especially men. I really don't know why I keep on doing it. I'm guessing because I see myself the way other people see me.

It depends on the situation. If I will make eye contact with a stranger that I am communicating with but not just passing by, especially men. If I give men that I don't know eye contact it makes them think that I am flirting with them, so I just glance so that I do not give the wrong signal.

I don't feel confortable to make eye contact with stangers.I 'll rather look at something around me or readind a book (if i have one) instead of making direct eye contact which is so awkward for me.

I'm not the open-to-strangers type. But there are times when I get to talk to one, due to my work. But in public, I don't look at people. When someone smiles, I just smile and look other place. Well, it's rare that I smile. I just look away. =)
