Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed(damaged) by human activity. Others fell that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion.

What you said first is true. But humans are not toally responsible for decay of the earth. IT is also advancement in science and technology which has been fully misutilised and hence things like global warming, pollution, total failure in environmental balance etc. are happening.

Global warming, pollution and other environmental failure are also done with humans. I believe that we are also responsible for these. For example, why do we have an air pollution?simply because smoke-belching man-made factories and cars are existing.

I said humans are not totally responsible, it does not mean they are not responsible. It is the abuse of science and technology by humans that is causing all these problems. Sooner or leter we have to take stock of the situation and take corrective steps before it is too late.

i really dont think there is serious doubt that human activity has damaged our earth. Every American wants to drive a car and this cant go on for ever. Sooner or later, mother nature will punish us. However reaction time is beyond one life time so we can carry on screwing up the earth because it wont be us that suffer it will be our children and grandchildren, now just how selfish are you when you turn on that car because you just cant continue to live without driving your car?

A sustainable use of the environment by man through his activity would enhance rather that harm the earth, but what is going on is that it seems to me, man is concerned with exploiting the earth without protecting it, its like the behaviour of the proverbial foolish farmer who milks the cow without feeding it and yet keeps blaming the cow for not giving enough milk!

Well, both and neither, really. It all comes down to the environment that humans find liveable (is that a word?) By our activities, we have made parts of the earth more habitable and comfortable for us humans. But we are also making it increasingly unstable for human habitation. Whatever we do, the earth will still be here. But will we humans still occupy it? Whether is it a growing biosphere or a cold lifeless rock, the planet will remain.

Is it possible to be both? Humans have discovered ways to make the world a better more comfortable place to live, but b/c of these discoveries and inventions it is harming the world. I know my answer isn't that deep, but I think b/c of human activity, the world is a better place to live, but b/c of human activity it is being damaged. LOL
