I just read the news in a swedish paper and found out that they in The netherlands are going to air a reality-show where 3 kids are to compete for a dying womans helathy kidney... This is really sick and I can not for the sake of anything belive what they are thinking. To have children hope for a life and then 2 of them will be crushed , just so that they will get higher ratings is just evil. Apperiantly the show is starting on friday and has caused alot of people to be very upset - and I do understand. The people behind the show defend themself with things lie - well they have the chanse on 1-3, that is alot higher than if they are on a donors list! I can not belive how it can actually even be legal to do a show like this - Like I said - It makes me sick!!!

That's terrible! The things they come up with for reality shows is really sickening. :( My 6 year old son was very close to needing a kidney transplant when he was a baby. I couldn't imagine him or anyone else having to compete for a much needed human organ. To compete for prizes such as money is one thing, but to compete where people WILL (not may) die is just WRONG! :*( I hope this show gets canceled and soon...

I am glad that the antibiotics seemed to work and that u didnt need him to have a kidney transplant, since I am sure that the wait would have been to long. it is for most people =/

Thank you Marie. I'm also glad my little one didn't need a kidney transplant. I wish he hadn't needed to take the antibiotics at all. I would rather avoid all medicines and their possible side effects. But I had to do what I had to do for my little boy...

Your six year old would have been on a list, waiting like everyone else. Nationally 71,662 patients are waiting for a kidney transplant. Every year, over 3000 people die while waiting for a kidney transplant.

Oh marie, that's horrible. Why is it even permitted to be aired on TV. Is there really no compassion left in this world? Are the people so greedy that they don't care what the other 2 kids will feel? Can't they come up with a more friendly reality show than this one? I can only shake my bunny head here. I do hope the show will be banned right away.

But that's ridiculous!!! The show is obviously not a good one and yet, they will still continue to air it. LOL, I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.

There is something so very wrong with people. This is one of the main reasons I almost never turn the TV on. People watch the most terrible things on television - and producers keep coming out with worse and worse to get people's attention. And it's even worse that so many people have become desensitized. How can they do that to children? That's really f*ck*d up (and I almost never use those words). That is a cruel and psychologically damaging thing to do to a child...

Ok, this is absolutely terrible, and a terrible way to go about getting a kidney, however those three kids now have a better chance than most do, who are waiting for a kidney transplant. I watched my husbands grandmother slowly die, because she was too old for a transplant, but she did dialysis regularly, until every vein just wouldn't support her dialysis anymore. she lived 10 years that way. I am happy she did, because she was truly a beautiful person through and through. indeed, the worst thing to happen to the kids who do not receive it, get placed back on the waiting list. this is just a way to speed up the process. So, I guess it is positive, and negative in a way.

Well the first thought that came to my mind was well its in the netherlands so its possible, here in america you'd be prosecuted for that and it wouldn't get aired. However the case may be I think that its tortureous to make a child think they are going to live, or to make them fight for life in that way. I think its good for a child to fight to stay alive, but in that way its just torture plain torture. I hope that the creators of that show are punished in the worst ways for what they are doing!!

The entertainment business does not shock me any more. Believe it or not, don't be surprised if this sick show gets high ratings. It’s a sick world we live in.

Reality shows have gone too far. They often hardly reflects the "reality of life" for the majority of its audience. I mean how many people drink liquefied earthworms, jump off a chopper or fall in love at an instance and make out even faster. They came up with so many gimmicks to get curious viewers. I don't know this show in particular but judging from reality shows I've seen I think kids should not be allowed to participate in one. And competing for a healthy kidney is definitely inhumane. Television producers should never cash in on the desperation of these sick kids and their families. They have already suffered greatly. I hope myLot users from Netherlands file a complain to their media regulators. This show should not be aired.

OMG, that's so horrible! What kind of sick B*stards would do this?!!!! I can't believe they would do that to kids, I just can't believe it. OMG, I'm still shaking my head. That show should be shut down. Oh, I hope some human rights lawyer there would do something and slap those b*stards with a big fat lawsuit. The nerve.

it is sick.i figured they'd get around to things like this eventually though..it seems they'll do anything over the top for ratings nowadays.even if it's unethical.

They are not giving it to a child? Where on earth did you hear that? A 37-year-old woman with a brain tumour is donating a kidney to one of three contestants currently on a waiting list. The woman will hear interviews from the three candidates and their families. Viewers will be able to vote on who should get the kidney, but the choice will be the woman's. They decided to go ahead with the show to get more attention from people in hope they will donate their organs as there is such a great need for organ donation, but I don't think this is the right way to do it. You also have to remember that the winner may not actually be capable of receiving the kidney.

Here the papers are saying that there are kids and they do not say anything about the choise beeing the womans, Its said here that they have three kids that are a match and that they will compete for it, and that the people will vote for the best candidate.

I think that is taking broadcasting human suffering too far. Being on a donor list is hard enough and enough of a strain on someone who is already sick without making it into a competition beyond who is the best match and who is the most likely to survive the procedure. It is also hard enough on the families that have to watch their loved ones die without getting The Call, without knowing they were only one of three. That is sick. I woldn't want to have to be the person making the decision, either, which is why I think the existing system is set up the way it is in the first place.
