Does it aggravate you when the store is out of something?

I do my grocery shopping at the local Walmart supercenter. It seems like almost everytime I go in there, they are out of something I regularly buy or no longers sell it! The other day they were out of the Taco Bell Salsa. As I looked closer at the shelf tags, I realized there wasn't even a tag or a space for it anymore. Aggravating! The next closest grocery store of any size is about 45 minutes away one way. I hate to drive that far especially because of the gas prices, but am getting tired of this limited or no selection. Does it upset you when the store is out of your regular things? What do you do?

I find it frustrating only when it's a brand I really like. Recently the store was out of Peter Pan peanut butter. Who runs out of Peter pan? I was only really disapointed because that's usually the only kind that I buy. So I had to settle for something else. And you know what. it wasn't that bad.

Right! Was there some big run on Peter Pan peanut butter that day or what?! LOL Glad the substitute brand you bought was okay though. It's disappointing to buy an alternative and not like it.

I was thinking Peter Pan makes the Great Value peanut butter and it was included in the recall too? Maybe not on the recall, but I am pretty sure PP does make it though.

well I just found out why there is no Peter Pan on the shelf. It got recalled because of salmonella. Apparently it effected many people since august and has not returned to shelves. However, Great Value, the Walmart brand, has not been recalled although it is suspected of salmonella. Walmart has continued to sell it.

It is very frustrating when you go to the store with something on your list and they don't carry it anymore. I am lucky as we have many grocery stores in our area and my husband works in a grocery store. I have requested that certain items be brought back to the store before. I ask to speak with the store manager and tell them that I buy an item every week and now they don't carry it. I have had luck doing this. It may be because they know me, but it is worth asking about.

That's a good idea? When I used to shop at Sam's Club they had a pad and pen posted in a couple places in the store where you could write down your request for an item. Thanks!

The only time I get aggravated is when they are out of the only brand of coffee my husband will drink Maxwell House. He won't drink anyhting else really it just goe sto waste. So I have to go around looking for it. Lucky for me there are many stores close together. But when I was in New Mexico and lived in Animas it was so far to drive to a store. And a Walmart was all the way in Silver City and it was over a hours drive there possably hour and a half. There was a Town called Lordburg about 35 miles away but it only had very pricey stores and you couldn't really afford to live buying at their prices.

I have found that Walmart Supercenter is out of alot of things that I need when I need it because everyone else seems to have needed it to and got there before me. Walmart rarely has my husbands coffee that is why I have to shop at Food City for it nowdays. Walmart has some great deals on their stuff but so does other stores when you can catch them on sale. I wish Walmart put out a Walmart Supercenter flyer so we would all know about the sales they have on stuff besides the little that they put in the back of the regular paper.

I've commented many times to my husband, that the regular Walmart we had before they built the new supercenter had a better selection and kept things in stock better than this new one.

My hubby is very particular about his coffee too. He doesn't like most brands. He likes the Yuban. Thanks for responding!

For me, it's not really aggravation, it's more of a disappointment. I tend to not let little things like that bother me too much, it takes up too much time and energy, but it can get very disappointing, especially if you are looking for that specific item. It's tough, because nowadays it's all about the deals you make with distributors. One day, an item will be there, next day, the price goes up because of labor, or cost of transportation, and the item is no longer carried. In the end, if it something I need very badly, I'll order it online... if not, then I'll get an alternative that will be okay. I'm not too picky anyways...

I usually find an alternative, too. It's just that there are some specific things I like and it is disappointing when they don't have it or just don't carry it anymore.

Our local Walmart is very bad about keeping things on the shelf. I know the area has exploded with population but they could stock more during the week to prepare for the weekend shoppers. The store is about 80% wiped out in groceries on Monday morning after weekend shopping. Now this is nothing new, it has been going on for over a year and the store still doesn't have a handle on it. The last manager was much better and since this new one came on board things have really gone downhill. We have to wait a week sometimes for diet cokes to be restocked. Bread is another item that is always out of stock. Hello...bread is not an unusual item, people eat it every day and it is a regular item that is purchased. Why not stock more??? I had to chuckle when I read your comment on the Taco Bell Sauce. That is another item that is always low here. Last time I bought it there was only 3 bottles on the shelf. I think complaining to the manager is a good thing. I would also ask for the name and number of the district manager. You will get better action from the district manager since he supervises the store and the manager :)

When I went back to do grocery shopping a couple days ago, I didn't see a tag or a place for it on the shelf. I go grocery shopping every 2 weeks.

I agree Monday is a *bad* day to do any shopping! They get a truck in on Tuesdays here I think. So I would think the shelves would be restocked by Wednesday or maybe even Thursday at the latest. I often go on Friday or Sunday to do my shopping. That's interesting you have the same problem with the same item? Good ideas - thanks!

I'll have to check and see if the tag is still up next time I go in there. lol I thought it was odd since most of the other taco sauces were pretty well stocked.

Yes it bothers me, but at the same time I understand it. It's not the worker's faults, and there really is nothing you can do about it. It's just something that goes along with life, and you just have to deal with it.

This is one of my pet peeves. I can understand if a store is out of something obscure, but the Tesco we always go to is ALWAYS out of bread. And potatoes. These are staple foods and they should have enough in stock, in my opinion. I always have to go to another store, or go without, which is infuriating! x

Yes it does aggravate me. That seems to happen to me every time I go to Walgreens. When there is something in the Walgreens sale paper that I want and I go to buy it, usually they don't have it. I stopped looking in their sale paper.

I guess it is just something I have had to get used to when we moved from a much larger town to this small village. It is getting better in terms of selection, but there is still a little ways to go. It is even worse when we drive to one of the larger towns to get something, and they are ALSO out of it! The store offering a rain check doesn't really assuage my irritation an that point.

Hi,melanie652! Emmm,a little bit,I think.I will complain,I guess. There is a huge enough supermarket near my college so that I just spend few minute on my way.But if the items which I want to buy is sold out.I might be annoyed.Fortunately,I seldom encounter this experience.

Yes it does aggrivated me when they are out of a product. Alot of times they have the product in the back but have not stocked the shelves. It is hard to find someone who will go back and find the product and stock it sometimes. Also I hate when I find something I like at a store and then the next time they are no longer carring it. That makes me so mad.

Yes! I hate it when the supermarket just stops stocking something, especially when you know that the product sells really well and there is no reason for them taking it off the shelves.

For me I don’t feel so much if the goods I intend to buy is out of stock. I can simply go to the adjacent shops. There are many shops and three supermarkets in my place where traffic here is not congested most of the time and I just need a few minutes drive to go to any of the supermarkets or shops if it happens that I can’t get the intended goods in the nearby shops.

I hate this too. I shop at Wal*mart once a week and COUNT ON getting my stuff. But still almost each time I go they DONT have what I came for. I am forced to wait or sometimes go to other stores. I had to hunt down shampoo one time 3 different Wal*marts till I found it! Gad. So yes I hate it. And always it shall happen still.

i get REALLY irritated when the store doesn't have someting i want. Whether they are out of it or judt don't sell it...it doesn't matter. Whether it is something like a type of makeup i like or my favorite soy milk...itt doesn't matter. The store shoul dhave everythign i want all the time! LOL! Recenetly i have been trying to find this new deodorant by Secret called Clinical Strength. i really want to try it, but nobody has it! i can't find it ANYWHERE!

I get mad, because its just ridiculous. They don't notify you that they're not selling it anymore, they just expect you to not care about that product being gone. They don't think to themselves that they're customers would like to know they're not carrying that product anymore, or that they'd like to know they're out of it. Its just ridiculous, and time consuming to have to drive to another store when you went to they'res to get your groceries in the first place.
