Publish America?

I was just wondering if any writers here have been published through Publish America and what has been your experience to date. Have you gotten out of your contract? If your contract was terminated and the rights were returned to you, did Publish America continue to sell your book? Were you happy with the royalties that you received?

One of the members of my writing group published a book through Publish America, against my advice. I heard from more experienced writers on a writing board that it was not a good company. My friend published and the quality of the print was not good - lines skipped, carriage returns in mid-sentence, etc. She was very angry with them for a long time. Then two or so years later she finally got a cheque from them. I still don't recommend them. I hear lulu.com is better. Good luck!

Lulu does make prompt payments--I have recieved my money from them like clockwork whenever I have earnings for the month.

I've seen enough scam warnings out there about this one. Don't even go near it. If you're a serious writer, why would you self-publish? It's a much more worthwhile endeavor to publish through a truly traditional publisher--there are even plenty of independent houses out there who are more willing to take chances on first-time writers.

I chose self publishing because I'm a poet and poetry is not always easy to publish.
