Was I crazy to get prescription sunglasses?

I was so happy that I finally got a pair of sunglasses that I could see from. People have been telling me it was silly to do that, that I should have gotten the flippy sunglasses that fit over my real glasses. I've tried those before and there are so hard for me to use. And, it is so easy to be able to wear my presciption sunglasses when I'm driving. I love to sit outside and read. I was so happy when I got them, but now I feel kind of bad that I spent the money on them. What do you think?

I have a pair of prescription sunglasses. I like them to use while driving or just being out in the sun. Don't think I could where them when I was trying to read, because they are not bifocals. I would say don't feel bad about getting prescription sunglasses.

Thank you, I needed someone to agree that it wasn't wrong to get them.

Honestly I think they are a good investment. those clip things for the glasses aren't for everyone and some don't look good with your glasses or don't fit well. So, it is nice to have a pair of regular glasses and a pair for the sun. Don't feel bad about investing in yourself! There is nothing wrong with it! Enjoy your new purchase!

The store should have offered you "Transition Lenses" where they turn dark in the sun and change to clear when your indoors. Maybe you can ask them if the can change the lens to those. Most places gives you 30 days to return the glasses if your not satisfied.

I understand, maybe because the car windows blocking the full sunlight. Sorry about that, thought my idea might have helped.

I did ask about the transition lenses, but they said they weren't that good when driving. Something about being inside the car they wouldn't darken as much as real sunglasses. And, I have a glasses required on my drivers license.

I wouldn't feel bad about it all if I were you. I used to have the sunglasses that you would just magnetically put on your regular glasses. They were ok for awhile but they eventually just broke or the magnet kept falling out. I spent more time fixing them than wearing them. Right now I have the transitional glasses but I'm thinking about getting prescription sunglasses for when I'm out and about in the sunlight.

I've never had the transitional glasses, but I think they would be nice for shopping. Sometimes, those lights in the stores are so bright.

Don't you listen to them!!! They are just jealous, because your glasses look so good. The flippy ones look stupid.

You're probably right, I had wondered if they weren't jealous.

I don't think you are crazy. For as long as I can remember, my dad has always had 2 sets of glasses - one regular, one sun. I would rather wear prescription sunglasses than the dorky flip ups.

I think it is very wise, I cannot wear those store bought sunglasses they hurt my eyes.

I noticed last year that the store bought ones didn't seem to help.

Naw you weren't crazy, I just got my prescription sunglasses, my boyfriend pressured me into getting them, at first I thought he was crazy, but I have to tell you it is so nice being able to see when it is sunny outside instead of putting on sunglasses that I can't see out anymore now I can see everything.

I think you don't need to listen so much to other people tell you how to spend your money and what should be important to you. Especially after the fact. Are you over 21? Are you up to your eyeballs in debt? Did you ask for their opinion? I'm going to assume you are of a legal age to make your own decisions and unless you are deeply in debt, you probably have pretty good judgement when it comes to money. You sound like you are enjoying your new glasses. You have tried the cheaper route (flippy sunglasses) before and they were not satisfactory, but you did try them. Let the others' comments either slide right off you, or tell them you are satisfied with your decision. Don't second guess yourself! Enjoy those RX sunglasses!

i've been thinking of getting some myself-i think it's a good idea. those clippy things you can add on them,well..they kind of suck. it makes sense to me if you drive a lot or even just out for a walk.plus if you lose the other pair, you'll have a backup.

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like those clip on ones. These are so easy to grab and wear. I'm even liking them when I'm shopping sometimes, it seems the lights it some stores are so bright.

I think that the benefit of having prescription sunglasses that protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays and allows you to see clearly more than out weighs the cost of them. It sounds like you experimented with other alternatives and that this is the best solution for you... Do not feel badly, everyone needs alittle something for themselves and it seems that they will provide you with hours of fun in the sun....LOL Sorrry, I had to had to use that pun...I am so bad!!!

Thank you, I seldom do buy things for myself. So this was my splurge on something for me. And, I really do enjoy being outside and able to see.

No way. I know several peole that have them and they swear by them. I think if it is something that is a part of your every day life, and there is a way to improve your vision and comfort, even though the sun may not shine every day, it's a good investment. There are other things that seem les important to deprive yourself of than that. Good for you!

if it's something which can make you feel more comfortable and if it's something you really like, as woodpigeon said, it's a good investment. after all, it's for you and not for anybody else. just let people think of what they wanna think. atleast you are happy having it!

You have found great enjoyment and use with the sunglasses. It doesn't sound like money wasted at all. It's a matter of...you already made a decision that you were comfortable with. you wanted the glasses. You have the glasses and are enjoying them. Leave it there and not dwell on possible regrets. It's already done. If you feel bad about spending the money, cut back in some areas for a while to replenish what you spent and just enjoy!

first and foremost, don't feel bad about buying it. it's your money. plus the fact that it's your choice and as you've said, you love it! and it suits you. so, don't think much of what people told you. atleast you know you get yourself something you are worthy of having.

If you need glasses to see clearly then having sunglasses which you can see with is a good thing.

I wouldn't even consider buying prescription shades, but that's because i only wear glasses part-time anyway (or at least I'm supposed to!) If you have plenty of uses for them and enjoy wearing them, why on earth not? You should only feel bad for spending money if it's wasted, and that certainly doesn't sound like the case here.

I think prescription sunglasses would be great! I don't like the flip on thingys. I know they cost lots but you gotta see and you have to have sunglasses for outside.

Good Morning Sherry! If you are able to see out of the sunglasses and they keep the sun from bothering your eyes then you did the right thing hon. My son was wanting some of those sunglassesat fit over your glasses but with his high prescription and the shape of his glasses we couldn't get any that would fit. We are taking him for his yearly examination in a few weeks and when we get his new prescription I'm seriously thinking about getting him some prescription sunglasses too if it doesn't cost too much money for two pairs. Hope you have a great day! SheliaLee

no, you do what's RIGHT for YOU. i had a friend that had the flippy ones too and they drove her CRAZY. if you're comfortable with your purchase then GOOD! you struggle enough with your glasses, well just wearing them even, i know my hubby hates his, so why make it more of a pain for yourself? i think you did the right thing. as long as you're comfotable with the money you spent and are happy with your purchase, who cares?! you are happy now you can sit ourside and read and protect your eyes, and not have any extra thing to deal with such as the flippy ones! like you said, you tried those before and didn't like them, so you did good!! it may have been a little costly, but look at how much use you will get and how happy you are now!
