Can you contact with him/she after you part?

Every one can make many friends ,of course boy friends or girl friends. Maybe you can part after a time mixed in . After you part ,can you contact with him /she? I was a boyfriend ago ,but we part for some reason. I havn't contact with him for many years. we lived in the diffrent cities.Sometimes he can write to me or leave word on the alumni association . I know he treat me as a good friend .I also treat him as a good friend ,but a old friedn.I won't contact with him .I don't the reason ,maybe i think that the partis the end. How do you think about this problem?
