Do you check whether the site of online shopping is secure?

Before giving your credit card information, do you verify whether the site is secure or not? I always check for Verisign and whether the page is an SSL encrypted page. What about you? Did you face any online fraud due to this? Cheers! Ram

Usually I try and avoid giving credit card information. I will try to do online shopping at sites, where they allow for Pay on delivery option, where I can pay them when they deliver me the product. In cases, where I dont have any other option, i will try to use Paypal if available. Even if that is not available, then I will crosscheck as you do, the security of the site, where it uses SSL, and any signed such as Versign, Thawte etc...

Pay on delivery is a good option, but then Paypal becomes similar to any other secure site as you need to get your credit card verified with Paypal. Cheers! Ram

I have shopped almost exclusively online for about 3 years now. Knock on wood, I have had no problem. As you stated, I too, look for the verisign and SSL encryption. I live in a small town that has nothing but a wal-mart. It is either drive 3 and a half hours (yeah, with these gas prices?!) or shop online!

As long as you look for Verisign and SSL, you should be fine. It is only if you are caught unawares then you land in trouble. Cheers! Ram

If I need to give credit card information, it means I am bend on getting something, and I will get things only from trusted sites. Hence, I do verify the site and make sure the URL is a secured site and there are SSL certificates. It pays to be cautious.

That's good. As long as you are careful, online shopping is a wonderful innovation. The moment you drop your guard, you fall in trouble with hackers though. Cheers! Ram
