what happens to Neo

i dont think you have understand this movie "matrix" then. becuase you are asking question like this you should watch third part of this picture again,wher e neo has been told to choose where he want to go ...is it in new zion ? or where trinity is goin to be die? listen .... matrix was over in movie ..but when you will see it from director eye...there isnt end of matrix.yes there is another matrix is waiting for end first... all have same story, same neo , same zion. this story is inspired by "Veda(religious book of hinduism).

Once i read something that said that Neo was the true ONE cause he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, and some ppl said that they saw a cross on his chest the moment that he is filled with light, just after his fight with Agent Smith. I kind of like this...hippotetical situation.

hmm as far as I understood the movie not only neo but the whole human race has come to an end with him giving his life away...

Matrix movie did had an unsatisfying ending . I was so much touched by the character of neo and ending of that hero in such a was keeps the all of us thinking of something different way. I think that neo would in the another dimension and niether the machine nor the human would be able to reach him

I am optimistic. I believe that neo didn't die :D
