"Ignorance is bliss"...is this true?

In this day and age, we're all skeptical and distrusting of one another. Data can be falsified\ Pictures can be photoshopped Videos can have imposters, doubles and fakers, and may even have smoke and mirror tricks to fool us People can lie and make scams of anything and anyone Real life is turning out to be like the book "1984" and the movie "V for Vendetta", losing our privacy thanks to technology and the internet (the modern-day Big Brother") At this rate, they say that ignorance is bliss. But is it really? Is it better to have a closed, ignorant mind, or an open, vulnerable mind? Same with the heart. Is it better to have a closed mind and heart to protect itself from the scammers, con artists, and all of the "Dreamslayers" of life (those who build up dreams of others only to kill them in the end, leaving them burned out, depressed and even suicidal), or a mind that is open to anything, but is left vulnerable and is waiting to be taken advantage of?

In some cases, I do think ignorance is bliss. I believe that sometimes, things are better left unknown, due to the fact that it may cause contraversy. It is not bliss in the sense that people can take advantage you if you are ignorant. So, it goes both ways really, although, I would have to say, ignorance is bliss in many circumstances.
