Money from the Us Government for Aids

United States

President Bush announced that he wants governmental approval to spend $30 billion to fight global AIDS. This has not been a real priority in his administration. Is he really interested or is he trying to appease the Christian Conservatives in the Republican party? Is he trying to shore up his sagging reputation and poll numbers? Does he really care?

The US is so in debt I can't believe that this would be passed in congress, what about the people with Aids here in America?? I know they could always use more funds to find a cure, why send it away. Another reason why I can't wait for someone new to come to office, at this point, anybody has to be better than what we have.

You sound like me. I know all the celebrities have their causes and they like to go to Congress and the White House to plead their causes but... There are a lot of problems in the world for which we are looked to for help. What about us? There is so much more we could and should do here at home. I thinkBush is just trying to get brownie points. Don't even get me started on why I don't like him, we will be here for days, and days, and days...

I am not a Bush fan, and he even irritates me more when he tries to claim that he is a Texan, which is so full of boloney, he is from CT, he went to a Texas school and married a Texas girl, but by no means is he a Texan, nor will he ever be. Now you got me started ha ha

The past few years he has certainly cared. He has been upping the dollar amount for the past few years, so who are we to say he is disingenuous? Why would that appease Christians alone?

Only in as much as the biggest base of his support seems to come from the "Christian conservative factions who seem to have his ear more than any other single group. I'm not being anti Christian in any way, but he seems to listen to only a few viewpoints which frequently seem to be the ones who agree with him. But that's politics.

I think that most people care about the Aids epidemic. It is hard to say though if he is doing this to help his party or if he is really concerned about it. Too bad that one has to wonder about a president's motives on such an important issue.

It is a world wide problem. But like in Africa, it is hard to break age old traditions and situations. It is not like the AIDS epidemic started yesterday. I'm begining to hate politicians. Remember the Shakespere line "first let's kill all the lawyers..." Politicians will promise anything to get votes and then, well we have seen what happens.
