In the middle ages Red was a mannerly color because it was a strong color and represented strength, fire, blood and war. Blue was more feminine. It represented harmony, peace, sky and water. When the fabrics were dyed those that were put in the vats the first fabrics were very strong. Each subsequent dying came out lighter. During the 19th century the color for babies was white. The color trimming was pink for boys and blue for girls according to The Ladies Home Journal in 1918. since pink was more decided and stronger it was decidedly suitable for the boy, while blue, being more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl." I read this on Anne Landers

Very interesting!! I never really liked pink and when I wanted to dress my girl in blue, everyone told me i was wrong. I've since then surrendered to the pinkness, since everything for girls nowadays is screaming pink. Maybe I was born in the wrong era.

I don't understand why people have such a fit about baby colores. They don't care which color they wear.

Well this is very interesting and I found out from somewhere that they use blue for boys because it is a cooling colour and it is meant to calm the boys down, while pink being more closer to red and being more fiery was supposed to liven up the girls, i,.e one is a n introvert colour and the other is an extrovert one. It is strange how things develope differently over time and different ccultures use colour in different ways.

That is interesting. I wonder when the colors got changed around. I've always thought that a lot of guys look good in certain shades of pink, and girls look good in blue. I've got a lot of blue t-shirts. My sister in law's husband's family is from Poland, and they've told me that it's a custom that if you have a marriagable daughter, you should paint your house blue to let eligible bachelors know.
