Your favorite songs are probably not what you think they are.

People associate a fast lifestyle full of drugs and partying with musicians. This is nothing new. However have you ever stopped to think about what you were hearing? Here is an example. This is a nice sweet song that gets a lot of airplay on radio stations across America and probably the world. I will put into quotes what it means. Under the bridge downtown Is where I drew some blood "he shot up heroin" Under the bridge downtown I could not get enough "he wanted another hit of heroin" Under the bridge downtown Forgot about my love "he found a new love which was a heroin addiction" Under the bridge downtown I gave my life away "he ruined his life because of heroin" I can also dissect the verses to reveal more truth. However I will leave that up to you. This same band has a lot of other songs on the radio that are about their heroin addiction. You just have to listen to the words. What do you think the song "Scar Tissue" is about? I'll give you one guess it is the scars on his arm where he shot up heroin. When a musician is singing a love song... it is probably about drugs. Not about some lost love or someone they love dearly. Musicians love drugs and writing about what you love is easier to write. Even Ray Charles was addicted to heroin. Elvis was on pills and whatever else. Many others were alcoholics. Who knows how many of their love songs are about drugs.

Well I don't think Elvis sang about his "pill" addiction. But there's so much controversy about music today, I can see where you're coming from. I've never been one to listen to music with negative lyrics, except a few Nirvana songs, but I never really listened to the words. I always liked Def Leppard for their love songs, and now I only listen to music in the car anymore and it's usually a christian channel to keep me positive.

I don't know if Elvis wrote many songs. I think someone else wrote most of them. But who knows what they were on or writing about. The Christian channel is the safe way but they are musicians. LOL. There are some church musicians who are not as good as you think they are. I've played with a lot of people so I am speaking of 4 states specifically where I lived and not necessarily where you live.
