Being a stay at home mom...

I chose to quit my job last November of 2006 after 9 long years of working in an airline. Since then, I have been a stay at home mom to my 2year old toddler. One time, my husband and I attended a seminar which required us to fill-out a membership form. I left the employment status blank since I am not anymore employed, and one of the seminar volunteer called our attention & asked my hubby why that portion was left blank. So my hubby answered 'she's not anymore working', and this seminar guy answered 'OH, SO SHE'S JOBLESS'. My husband explained that it's our mutual decision for me not to work anymore. Then the seminar volunteer answered 'AH, SO JUST WRITE THERE HOUSEWIFE'. It was like a slap in my face, first he branded me "Jobless" & now a "Housewife". What a prick... Did you experience something similar or am I just being overly sensitive?

Oh no you should not be wqorried with these type of comments. I would love to have my wife sitting at home and waiting for me to come home and take care of my son and me. Thats the toughest job and you are doing that ...so hats off to you

I afraid that your sensitive to common matters. It is customary to fill housewife in the occupations coloumn if not working. While filling out forms, none of the columns must be left blank. It is a must to fill atleast NOT APPLICABLE, wherever it is not possible to fill the details. Regards/Samson

I am just overly sensitive I guess. It is maybe because I miss working. But I would never exchange the bond that I have now with my son for anything LOL. It's fun being a stay at home mom.

Maybe your just not used to the idea yet that you are now a stay at home mom and yes you are a Housewife. I don't think there's nothing wrong with being called a housewife because that's what you are right now. I just don't like the guy's sarcasm towards you and naming you jobless. I myself have been employed for 12 years and decided to quit just this year so that I can attend to my son personally. And yes it can make you overly sensitive with these kinds of things having been once a very active career woman. I'm still getting use to this, it's hard but the time I spent with my child makes it all worthwhile.
