Scarifications

For those of you who don'tknow, scarification is when someone cuts a design into the skin to create a scar. This is similar to a tattoo in that it is a permanent print on your skin, though it is different because scarifications are just scars, not ink, and they are done with a scalple, not a needle. Does anyone here have a scarification? Is anyone here interested in getting one or doing one yourslf? If you do one yourself, you have to be extremely careful. It is really asy to end up with dirty tools and that will lead to infection.

in my opinion i think its ugly and pointless even if people think its meaningful to them. on the other hand i feel tattoos are definitely artistic and more meaningful because the artwork as pencil, pen, and paintings all canvased onto your skin. but i don't there is anything right artistic about creating a scar on purpose. scars should come by accident or from something out of your control. otherwise there is really no "realistic" meaning behind a scar.

i agree with you to the MOST part...but i think that if they really have meaning, then i think they are fine. You know i have many scars, but none of them are scarifications. None of them were wanted.

ALl he means is that if they feel it is meaningful. i know, he didn't say it in a way that sounds like that...but he did.

what do you mean by "if people THINK it is meaningful to them" if they think it is, then it is.

it's not for me. I've seen some really beautiful designs, but I don't think how it will scar is predictable enough for me to want it done. some lump up, some are smooth and flat but without pigment, some are hollow in the skin. there are ways to encourage one variety or other of scar, but it's not an exact science.

Yeah, that is why i won't get it done. The only scarification i would cinsider is "AFI" in pretty writing.

I think that there are some designs that look really good as scarification, but it's definitely not for me. I'm a big fan of multiple colors on my tattoos, so something solid colored like scarification isn't my style. That, and I have enough scars already from really random things (I scar pretty easily).

Yeah, i like tattoos...with color...some blay and grey look amazing, though. But scarification is not really what i want on my skin. i want tattoos. The only scarification i would get is "AFI" in pretty lettering.

Sounds painful...I usually run away from needles. but I admire tattoo art. Not so sure about just scars though...

Yes, it is very painful...but people do it because they want to mark their bodies forever with something that is meaningful to them.
