How easy is it for you in your country to get a totally new ID? Just a theoretical question if you wanted to change your name completely and 'vanish' how easy is this to do?
If guilty people can get a whole new identity and a brand new life, then surely innocent people can do this too? Witnesses who have seen grisly crimes are also given a brand new life and all their old records and their old life is 'deleted'
I have often wondered how much or if at all it is possible to scrap your life and start again under an alias and 'vanish'
What are your thoughts on this subject?

What a scary thought! I would imagine it was very possible sweetheart, here in the uk, there was a documentary a few months ago about how easy it is to get fake passports and if you had one of those I am sure you would be able to build a whole new life! I would have no idea how to go about this but it is supposed to be very easy as long as you have plenty of money! xxx

Any one who changes ID has to go through a great deal of trouble and a lot of money, guilty people are using fake ID or foraged and can be found out and then you have one more crime on your sheet, witness protection is government sponsored, and they have the wear with all to do this. but for the average person getting your name changes is quite expensive and all that it entails is also expensive as well as time consuming. and what would be the difference I still would have the same personality and needs and wants so I would end up on the same place with a different name.No in this instance it is a lot easier to change your self than your identity

Well wolfie .. how much money do you have .. and do you want to be male or female in this 'new life' ..
If you have the money you can be whomever and whatever you want to be .. disappearing into thin air is all too easy peasy if you know the right folks and can pay your way ..
It is legal in this country (UK) to simply change your name .. and once you have a few letters arrive at your new address you should be able to start changing over the names too .. only problem is doing it that way leaves a massive paper trail to your new identity ...

I would guess it is relatively easy to do. I base this answer on the number of my clients, illegal aliens, who provide forged and stolen documents for proof of citizenship and identity. They even admit to me they are forged documents because they know I am not allowed to report them.

Hi wolfie - well I spent some time working for the DSS and giving out National Insurance Numbers - so my honest answer, is VERY easy if you know the right people. Here in Britain, a change in NINO wipes out all your work/benefit history, and a lot of your credit history too - and from there the rest is a piece of cake:-)) But of course I didn't tell you that, or my ex-colleagues may have to kill me! LOL!

I've never had to get one.
These days though I wouldn't put money on getting a new one any time soon as we all know how stupid the united kingdom is. Although I won't go into that :)

I know there are such things, especially to those criminals. If this continues to happen, it will surely bring bad results to the society, and what's more, our legislation has loosened guard against this, which encourages crimes. Therefore, it's the time to watch on this kind of action.
However, there is the case that someone wants to get a new ID with certain purpose, usually means no harm, this case should be spared

With all of the technology that is available today..I would think that it would be difficult...
Of course, illegally it is probably possible for the right amount of money...as it seems that almost anything is possible if you can afford it..LOL
