I have received one mail today from a friend about bull fighting and it shows how they kill the bulls. They are so helpless. I hate to see the matador while he's killing the bull, i fell like my heart bleeds at the same time. I decided to post this topic on mylot to increase the awareness about this game. Why are these people don't feel bad for these animals? Anyways, I have seached the net and found some articles which makes my heart break when I read how this bullfighting is being done. Check this one: Bullfighting aficionados contend that the events are battles to the death in which either participant, the bull or the matador may die. In reality, the bull never has a chance to win, and the bullfight is only a cruel spectacle of human dominance. Studies have proven that before the bullfight even begins, the bulls are weakened with drugs. Their horns are shaved to throw off their equilibrium and they are kept in total darkness before the event so that they are blinded when they are forced to enter the arena. During the first stage, picadors, men on horseback, drive pics into the bull's neck to start the flow of blood and to anger him. Next banderillas gouge brightly colored spears into the bull's neck to lower his bead in preparation for the kill. The barbed spears continue to move and dig into the bulls back throughout the fight, causing bleeding and tissue damage. The bull may also experience internal bleeding. Once the bull has been weakened by blood loss, the matador taunts the bull for several minutes before he stabs the bull between the shoulder blades. He aims for the bull's vital organs, but often misses, causing the bull to suffer further. Often, the bull maintains consciousness, even as the matador and his team begin carving his ears distribution as trophies. Bullfighting is losing support and popularity. In 2004 245,000 activists signed a petition to ban bullfighting in Barcelona. While bullfights occur primarily in Mexico, Spain, and the south of France, curious American tourists are largely to blame for the support of this institution. The prevalence of tourists at these events allows bullfights to occur with greater frequency than they otherwise would. For more information, visit IDA's Animal Fighting factsheet available at: http://www.idausa.org/facts/fighting.html Link: http://www.idausa.org/campaigns/sport/bull/bullfighting.html I feel that I should support this campaign, I love animals so much, even it's a pet or co-worker like the bull or carabao. We should teach these people a lesson that these animals should not die for the sake of entertainment. In countries like Mexico and Spain, I think the government should take some actions for this, eventhough it's part of their culture I think it's time to fix all the wrong things they are doing. Let us unite against this, even though it is only here in mylot posts, but at least some people will be discouraged to watch such shows as tourist attraction. What are your opinions on this? Should the animal suffer just for our entertainment?

I too am against any kind of animal cruelty and the idea of turning the slow barbaric torture of killing an animal for a spectator sport is the worst kind of cruelty---not only bull fights, but dog fights as well...People have a really sick sense of what is "entertainment" It's unfortunate that this has been going on for centuries, and I really sometimes wonder if it'll ever stop. But I don't think you can blame just American tourists for the continuation of this "sport"....Since Spain, Mexico and other Latin American countries have been known for bullfights, it's kind of expected as one of the tourist "attractions" in general, whether American or not

I forget who...but I think it was actually the author Ernest Hemingway, who wrote a novel that had bullfights in them..since I never read that particular book (never been a Hemingway fan to begin with) I don't know whether he "glorified" bullfights or not...but this might be one of the contributing factors for the american attraction for bullfights

I really understand your disgust though about bullfights...I really am against them...and don't get me started about the cruelty inflicted on animals for experimentation in the name of "science"---and unfortunately, in many cases governments actually fund grants for this type of research!!

This is such a vile sport. I hate it too. It is awful to kill the animal for their entertainment. I question the heart of humans. How would they like to be treated like that, if the animals dominated us?
