Do you have a pair of binoculars?

If so, what do you use them for? I sometimes use them at sports games, other times we use them for whale or bird watching. If you have a pair, what sort of things do you use yours for? Do you see what you are looking for? Have you ever gotten an eyeful of something you hadn't bargained on? As you can see from the pair I have attached, they get a lot of use. I think the coolest thing we ever spotted was a Basking Shark and leather back turtles.

i have a pair of binoculars bought last year..its very useful to see the objects that r very far away and cant be seen in open eye...binoculars come in gr8 use during the time of solar and lunar eclipse when we cant see those in open eye..otherwise i use it when wish to visit any distant objects from the roof of my building..if visited any playground then also i use binoculars.. last week while using the binocular suddenly a saw a small bird in a tree very cautiously trying to keep her new born baby very safe....probably she was trying to hide her baby far from others..

Those all sound like very interesting things to keep an eye on :-) I love watching young birds growing up and learing to fly, also.

I have a pair indeed..and it is a little pair, very elegant ones, with little golden decorations. It is one of those you can carry with you in your ba when going to the opera..I first used it when going to the opera for my very first time..my father bought it to me while being in Russia and visiting the ancient theatre, the Bolscioj..this is the reason why I was so disappointed when I found I lost one of the lenses..maybe I can have a new one instead of the old..

I hope the optomestrist can grind a new lense to match. That would be such a shame to no longer be able to use such a wonderful gift and keepsake.

As I live on quite an exciting estate in London and the police are always up and down my road I tend to get my binoculars out for a closer look. On one ocassion I moved my binoculars along my estate and saw a naked man. Not a very nice sight I can assure you so I quickly moved them away!! Your use seems alot more safe and interesting!!

we were pumping gas at a station in a town not too far from here, heading out for a long road trip.... the woman behind the counter in the convenience store had her binoculars out and was peering out the window of the store AT ME in the car!!! she just kept them glued on me, like I would not notice. I was really irked by it. finally I blew her a kiss and she put them down! lol.

Afternoon Pigeon, I have a very nice pair but you know what I can not even remember the last time I had them out of the drawer. I use to use them a lot when we went to concerts at Starwood, and then when the boys were young we would watch birds nesting and feeding young, looking at insects on trees that sort of thing. But they have been tucked away now for years its a shame too. But you have no reminded me that I have them and I could be enjoying them with the grand children like I use to their fathers. Hey thanks for that.

We do woodpigeon but I can't remember the last time we used them! I used to love going to the loch or the beach and looking out to see but the kids have appropriated them now and love to watch the wildlife in our back garden with them! I am glad to say I have never spotted anything I shouldn't!xxx

I use mine to scope out the really good looking neighbor...Just kidding! LOL I use mine for bird watching and when I go to the coast to watch whales and sea lions. They are good for so many things. I watch the electric meter reader use them to read meters from outside of people's yards. I guess it helps to see the dogs that are in the yards and to prevent getting bitten by said dogs. Now about those birds that sit over clean cars...would it help with those also?

If I had any really goo dlooking neighbours I would probably look at them, too. Fraid it isn't the case, though. I didn't know meter readers used them, that is such a sensible thing to do! My meter is in the house so the little old guy has to come in and stand on a chair. I'll off him a pair next time he calls by!

We don't own a pair of binoculars and I don't know what I would really use them for even if we did own a pair . It seems that so many of the people in our area that have them for being nosy and it kind of puts you off something when so many that you know are only using them for this reason . What ever happened to bird watching and things like that lol .

Seriously, a lot of your neighbours are hanging out watching each other with binocs? I don't know if that is creepy or funny, lol! I wonder what sort of unexpected eye fulls they have gotten? Probably not too much like me mistaking rocks for sea otters, lol!

I would also like to have a telescope. Now that my kids are getting older, I think they might benefit from having one on hand for whatevr lunar and astronomical events crop up.

Yep, I do have a pair of binoculars. I used to use it for watching my friends doing surfing. I watched them from the beach under the palm tree with a fresh coconut drink on my lap...hummm, and sometimes when I'm bored I use them to spot some hunks that walking down the beach showing their six pack - of course that was happened when I was single....hehehe

I don't have a pair, but this discussion took me back to when I was a child. My father had a pair, and he used to always take them with us when we went fishing with him. My sister and I would take the binoculars out of their case, and give them to our mom, then we'd take the case and go hunt for butterflies LOL. I remember catching 5 Cabbage White butterflies one time, and when mom opened the case, they all flew out at her LOL. Poor lady got a shock! When I was a teenager, I was sat talking to my Dad on our back patio. In the night sky in the distance, we saw something that seemed to be triangular in shape. It had a red, green and blue light that all flashed one after the other. Dad and I spent an hour looking at it through the binoculars. It never seemed to move, it just hovered, and no matter how hard we tried, we couldn't figure out what it was. Finally, it just disappeared.

Goodyear Blimp - This thing flies over my house sometimes. Wish I could ride in it.
I have a pair that I use mostly for spying on the birds in the backyard. They often have their little dramas that can get interesting. There's a family of turkey buzzards that live near here, and they're fun to watch. Sometimes the Goodyear blimp flies over my house, and sometimes Hot air ballons land in my backyard, and I'll watch them with binoculars.

That is one thing bad about having cats, I miss out on the birds being safe to fly down into the garden. I hate this time of year because the cats catch so many of the fledglings. I would love to see the blimps and hot air balloons! That is so cool!
