Do people really eat rice for breakfast?

Everywhere I go on My Lot these days, I hear someone talking about how they had rice for breakfast.
Is this a new thing? Or, simply cultural?
We don't do that in the states. So, I can't figure out where rice breakfast dishes are the norm.
Do you eat rice in mornings where you are from?
Would you?

I live in Asia and one of the breakfast options here in my country is porridge. This isn't a new trend, we have had this as an option for generations.
Although I don't usually have porridge for breakfast, it is actually possible to have it for breakfast if one wants to. So a person could choose to have porridge with chicken, egg or pork, etc.
There might be some Chinese restaurants where you live that serve porridge for breakfast. That will give you some idea of what some Asians have for breakfast.

I don't eat for breakfast. The only and only time I have, is when I have rice pudding for breakfast. They have a shop here in NYC called rice to riches and they only sell rice pudding. It is amazing. Sooo good !

hi beautyqueen26!
I personally dont like having rice for breakfast. But to answer your question, YES.
Some cultures, such as mine (Filipino), and some other Asian cultures practice eating rice for breakfast, and for every other meal of the day. Rice is usually the staple food in Asian countries.
I guess it just depends on the culture, and people just get used to the idea that rice can be/ is eaten for breakfast. =D

I am in the States and not of Asian heritage - I like rice for breakfast on occassion. I like it cold or heated - I like it mixed with scrambled eggs in it and cheese etc... my folks will eat it with butter and sugar for breakfast - kind of in the same sense that folks eat grits I guess...the sweet stuff does not appeal to me - but savory, sure! now I am not likely to go ahead and make a pot of rice special for breakfast but will eat it if we have leftovers from dinner the night before. yum. rice is good food.

I think it is the culture. I live in Singapore where we have a harmonious multi-racial society. I know the Indians here normally have rice for breakfast. The rest of the races do not. Most skip breakfasts (yes it is bad :/) or eat something else.

Even if I come from China and rice is one of our main food. We almost don't eat rice as breakfast. Except sometimes when we have leftover rice and then next morning we will heat it with some fried egg for breakfast. But this is not common. Rice is supposed for lunch and dinner only.
