Do you like to give or get popcorn tins?

I have seen them often but never bought or recieved one until Christmas. My Mother in law gave one to me and hubby as one of our presents. We never opened it and when we eventually opened to check it out, it was stale and yucky. I dont think I would ever give one of these as a present. They just strike me as odd gifts. What about you?

yea, I dont think I'd ever give one, unless it was like an extra present. But I dont mind recieving them, as my household is full of popcorn eaters. But There is so much popcorn in there that we have never finished one. But I like to use the tins for other things afterward. So, I wouldnt mind getting one. but like I said to give it it would have to be just something extra.

I have never given or received them as gifts and have always thought that they were "tacky"..but only because I imagined that the quality of the product would not be high. I have to admit that I have tasted a few and never liked them...then a friend got one ( some high-brow brand specialty corn) and it was awesome...but I guess it is something you special order from a company that does nothing but high quality food gifts...it really was some of the best kettle corn I ever tasted...then I found out the price and almost fell over!! It was $45.00 for a small tin!!!

Gaslamp Popcorn Company has the best kettle corn ever! They have all kinds of flavors and I believe they do tins around holiday time. They are reasonable priced too. I love gourmet popcorn. It's the best! http://www.gaslamppopcorn.com

popcorn!!! - popcorn
Popcorn does not have a great shelf life. Usually it is recommended when you get popcorn gifts to use them within a week. No matter what the container - plastic, cellophane, metal and the like - it'll get stale very soon. So dont store it away, open it and use it within a few days ... and share! I love popcorn - especially the cheddar kind!

I love popcorn. I never try to judge a gift. If someone gives a gift then I will accept it...with a joy that they thought of me no matter what the gift maybe....

When I was little my grandma used to always get those for our family for Christmas. My mom used the big tins to store Christmas decorations in, so they were easy to pick out from the rest of the stuff in storage. If we got a small tin, she would reuse it for homemade cookies and candies and then give them away.

ha the only person i ever gave these to was my grandpa, cuz he loved them! but i think we've gotten one every year since we've been married. which doesn't bother me, we like them a lot! love the cheese popcorn. but it's just funny that we get one every christmas, and from different people, and only one, no one has overlapped, not like we've gotten 3 from 3 different people in one year! i think it's an ok gift, as long as you maybe give it with something else maybe? unless you know that person looks forward to that all the time!! i don't know!

I was never really a popcorn type of person. It's only something I would eat only if there was not much of anything else, & I needed a snack. Those tines are always in 3 sections containing plain, cheese, & caramel. I prefer the cheese, followed by the plain popcorn. Recently, a friend of mine ended up getting surgury because he broke a tooth on a solid-rock kernel of unpopped popcorn, & the piece of tooth that was left got infected. Last I heard, it was a fiasco between dental & medical insurance companies because the dental insurance considered surgury as medical, & the medical insurance company considered it dental because it was work done on a tooth.

LOL-- Every year my daughter picks one of for her grandpa- Of course he gets numerous gifts- but he loves popcorn- She has fun picking out the one to buy- They often eat it together- when watching movies- I think it is gross- I don't think they have ever had a stale tin- but usually don't wait to open it-

My elderly aunt used to give those to me and older boys for Christmas. (back when I was a single mom of two). The boys loved the popcorn (I found it stale and bland) so all was well. She always chose one with a little boy theme (trains etc) and we used the tins to store blocks and small toys in after the popcorn was gone. Luckily, as they aged she moved on to other gifts! I do not give these as gifts myself since I know the quality of what is inside!

Well, if they had given you any food item and you left it sit for a while it would get stale and yucky! lol! I buy the tins for myself, dump the popcorn and use the tins for storage of yarn, rice, and other things. Don't think I would give one as a gift though. That's like giving a gift card - it says "when you care enough to give them something but don't want to take any time or effort into the gift". Maybe it's just me though. And that would be ok!

Those are great! I pull out the cardboard dividers and mix the 3 flavors together! They make great holiday gifts at work. My former boss would buy a few cans for our department every year and we loved it! As for a personal gift, I would be ok with that too. It's the thought that counts, afterall. Of course it's going to be stale if you don't use it right away. It's popcorn!

Whenever my family has gotten one of those for christmas or something, we've opened it up and started eating right away. It usually lasts for quite a while but luckily we've always eaten it before it's gone stale. Afterwards we save the cans to use as wastepaper bins or something like that. So, even though it's kind of weird, I guess it's an okay present especially for a family with kids. The caramel and cheese popcorn is yummy!

We like to buy these around Christmas time for the children. They really enjoy the popcorn that comes out of the tins. I have never received one as a gift nor have I given one as a gift either. Its not the type of thing that I would give someone. If I receive one as a gift then I would just say a polite thank you and allow the children to eat it.
