Do you believe in psychic powers?

Often I see these shops that offer tarot cards, palm readings, psychic energy readings, fortune telling, horoscopes, and I usually blow them off. Most of the time I just assume that these people are scam artists. Occasionally I check the newspaper horoscopes, but only for entertainment--most of the stuff I read never comes true. But today I had an unusual experience. A psychic approached me on Park Avenue and started telling me all these things that really made me wonder. She told me that she saw California in the near future (She was right--I'm going to visit some relatives in California this summer). She also said that I'm artistically inclinced (I'm into music and theater). She also read "England." (I'm a huge Anglophile, and I was thinking of auditioning at the Royal College of Music in London in the near future). She started telling me other very specific things, things that only people who really know me would have figured out. This lady had never met me. She claims to have figured these things out just by "reading" my "aura." I do NOT normally do this, but I decided to let her give me a tarot reading, and she was surprisingly spot on. I've always believed in intution, but never in actualy psychic powers. Is this stuff for real? Is there such a thing as clairvoyance? Have any of you ever consulted psychics? Or would you ever? I'm tempted to get another reading from this lady, just out of curiousity more than anything else.

These things are real, but the thing is, you either have it or you don't. Some people work hard trying to have 'the sight' and they never obtain it. Other's are very attuned to the feelings they get in the pit of their stomach and just know things without really knowing how they do themselves. I think it's a matter of what you are born with. I myself am pretty good with reading situations. I will read tarot cards on occasion and I've come to some pretty interesting conclusions that often help give insight to problems or situations and those help me figure things out. Other times I'll have dreams or flashes of visions that come true either instantly or at a much later date.

That's a really interesting perspective. Maybe there's a fine line between intution and ESP/psychic abilities. I think of intuition as ability to read body language, vocal infections, feel the "energy" of a room, etc. I think those things can be developed. By psychic powers, I think of what the lady on Park Avenue was able to do--pull information from nothing, have a prophetic vision or dream. Maybe those things are just a gift that you either have or you don't. I believe that intuition can be developed, but that sixth sense of ESP is something that you either have or don't have. Thanks, that was very helpful.

"you either have it or you don't" Oh I disagree...we ALL 'have it' every single one of us....the problem however is that many ppl have been basically trained by society, family/friends etc to ignore it, blow it off, shut it down, deny it and so on.....But we ALL "have it"

Raven, that's an interesting theorgy. I suppose we all have sixth sense in some way or another, it just learning how to utilize it. If I had any kind of psychic powers, I wouldn't know it. A few weeks ago, I had a dream about someone I hadn't seen in months. In that dream, he and I were in a car and he was driving. A few days later, I ran into him and his family and New York, and he ended up giving me a ride. I had never been in a car with this guy in my life until that dream. I hadn't realized the propetic nature of that dream until after the fact.

ok, a true psychic is very rare. There are millions of fakes, it seems to be fashinable at the moment. All the fakes will be interested in making money out of it, a genuine psychic will not care if she/he makes any money out of it. I for example will never charge for my gift as i see money as a filth, a staign on our lives. By the wzay come to England in the early part of next year, it will benefit you greatly blessed be

Eskarena, are you telling me to come to England as psychic premonition? Or is it just a general recommendation? By early part of next year, do you mean January 2008? I wouldn't mind living in England for a few years, either London or New York. I've always had an Anglophilic inclination.

We're all psychic...its just that many of us have shut that part of ourselves down for one reason or another as we grow up and leave childhood....Being psychic ISNT a "power", its not supernatural, its not for only certain ppl and so on....everyone has what is needed, its just a matter of opening not only your mind but also your soul and retraining yourself to be more in tune with it... Have i ever or would I ever pay a psychic? NOPE cause I dont need to...I do my own readings etc and have for a long time and before I learned how the wonderful woman who taught me did a few readings for me...Now I read for other ppl and show them how to do it themselves or help them with their readings (when they do it themselves)

That's a really interesting perspective. It's kind of intimidating when you think of psychic abilities as being supernatural or powerful, but when you think of it as something anyone can develop, it seems much more accessible. What I find is a lot of psychics/fortune tellers/tarot readers are just there to tell you what you already know (at least on an intuitive level).

Yes I believe in psychic ability. I do believe that it is in all of us to some extent or another. For some it is more powerful while others may only have a tinge of it. The problem also comes in that society as a general has caused many to suppress this ability. To push it aside or bury it. That it cannot be real and that it cannot actually exist. For those who are very powerful it can be very hard to ignore. That being said though even those with a tinge if trained to use it correctly can find it to be a valuable tool for insight but it's finding a way to use it and how best to tap into it for you. Some never get that chance to pursue their ability.

yes I very much believe in the psychic powers very much as I have had the same experiounce only it was with a friend - I was having company over and when I went into the kitchen I smelled strawberries and I know that I never had any in the house I just kinda brushed it off The next day I took my hamster out of the cage and let it crawl around on the floor I had to put the pot of flowers -Artifical that is- on the stand and open the cage door from the top than i sat the flowers back on the cage top and while I was playing with the hampster the flowers lifted from the pot and landed on the floor mind you the pot did not turn over it was like someone had took the flowers out of the pot and throwed them down without moving the pot It kinda took me by surprize but than I did not think anymore about it, I went to my sons the following day and as I started home I had a very strong feeling to stop and see an x girlfriend of my sons as I pulled into her driveway the ball joint broke on the right side of the car now if had continued to go on home I would had wrecked my car and possiable had gotton hurt real bad I had talked to a friend of mine about this and she had told me that was my sister who passed away in 1995 - the smell of strawberries was her also giving me a waring I guess the flowers that were lifted out of the pot was her trying to let me know that there might had been a furnial that would had been mind. And this is TRUE because I have feeling at one time or another that something is going to happen and when I feel my sister on my right side I get a warm feeling on my right shoulder

That's a really interesting story. Thank you. It's good that you went with your hunches. Many people get similar hunches, but they find ways to reason or to rationalize it away. Very often I will get a premonition, but I would just ignore it, only to later realize that I should have trusted my instincts. That's wonderful that you could sense guidance from your sister. I have often wonder how people who have crossed over are able to communicate with the living.

As most of your responses have mentioned 'we all have it', most of us can think of a time when something has happened in our lives that we can't explain but tend to think of it as coincidence or some other strange occurence. I regularly go for a tarot reading, every 3 months is the recommended time scale inbetween readings, my reader knows nothing about me but usually there is always something that is mentioned that hits a nail or even if at the time of the reading it means nothing to me, I later find that it comes back to me when an event happens that seems as though it was meant to happen. I often know who is ringing me when the phone rings before I speak to anyone but can't explain how I know I am right. This is always a subject of interest for many people because I guess we will never know how it happens. Delve deeper into the subject and you will be surprised what you find out about yourself.

It is real and it exists. I am one of those psychics (well a Learner). I have had my tarot cards for 12 years and i have done many readings that have never failed.
