Can you ever have too many friends?

Have you ever noticed how some My Lot members go around requesting to be friends with everyone?
You'd never notice this, until you click on their username or profile and see that they've been on the site for less than a month and already have 500 friends.
Nobody is that popular!
And, I wonder, are they really interested in friendship, mutual exchange of ideas or if it's a ploy to raise their earnings.
What do you think?

If it's a ploy to raise their earnings, please tell me how, cause O thought friends had nothig to do with earnings.
Personally, I only requested a few friendships, of people that answered my posts and I liked their answers, and then the rest requested my friendship and I just agreed. I mean, anybody is innocent until proved otherwise, so why should I reject a friendly offer?
What about you, how many friends do you have? How long have you been here?
