here is the situation. For personal reasons I can not discuss here,I have to let go of my day job. I have to be able however to make $475 min a week. I am a pretty good writer, but new to the field. Does anyone know of any writing jobs that I can do online that pays more then just pennies? I have tried helium and triond, but they don't pay enough to even buy a cup of coffee. If you know anything, please help me out with some information. I would highly appreciate it.

It is certainly possible to make more than pennies writing online, but it can take a bit of time to get up to speed. Here are my suggestions: (btw, I am a writer who is currently earning around $200 a week, could be more, but I have two very small children to look after): 1. Set up a small website with 3-4 samples of your work, a brief bio, any credits that you have, and contact info. This way you look more professional and it is very useful to have a link to send prospective clients to. 2. If you live in the US. Set up an account at www.associatedcontent.com. They pay between $3-20 per article, with the average being somewhere around $5, plus bonuses for page views. It isnĀ“t great work, but you get publicity, some fast cash, and more published samples. Plus, if you can turn out 13-14 short articles per day, you should make your goal. 3. Sign up for www.constant-content.com/?aref=9303. This is an international writing site. You put your articles up and set your own price. Buyers scan the site frequently and buy. I am selling 500 word articles there for between $30-45 right now. They do take a cut, but I figure that it is worth it for the number of articles that I sell. 4. Check writing job boards daily and apply for everything you feel remotely qualified for. Watch out for scams. I usually do one test article and once they pay me for that, I will continue. Some of my favorite places to find work: www.online-writing-jobs.com: lots of small, long-term gigs www.writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html: A very good listing of jobs online. www.jobs.problogger.net/: blogging jobs, nice short posts I hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Guatemom gave some terrific advice. Thanks! I also suggest breaking into freelancing. Write for magazines. It won't be steady income at first, but you'll make more money than if you write for AC or Constant Content. FundsForWriters.com lists markets. Writing4Dollars.com is another good resource. WritersWeekly.com is also another great resource. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Hello slaveeva, I would like to direct you to AssociatedContent where your articles, located by and through keywords you tag to your articles, are read, reviewed and rated by popularity. The staff pays roughly $3-40 per each article depending on how many views it receives. The more well-written and current and popular the topic, the better your average income per day shall be. http://www.associatedcontent.com/signup.cfm?refer=1556 Another good one is guru.com which is a freelancing site that offers you assignments for bids and proposals averaging between $10 per hour to almost $3,000 per hour depending on the size of the project and the duration you are employed by usually an out-of-state employer looking for a quality writer. Guru.com costs a few dollars a month but is well worth it ! They are specific to your resume you create with them and quite selective, a no-nonsense place for writers to get credibility and income ! http://www.guru.com sharing the light, Erica, the Enlightenment advisor M.A. Transpersonal Psychology Studies Counseling, Author & Artist http://www.enlightenment-psych.net/ericasprofile.htm

I have set up an Author Blog for myself with links to some of my writing samples. I have signed up for Associated Content and as soon as I have some extra money I will sign up with Guru.com. It is a bit scary, but eh nothing worth doing in life is ever easy. Thanks again everyone.

There's not too much more that I can add to what's been said except that the most useful tool you can have is the book "Writer's Market." They also have an online site (but you must pay monthly...or it comes free if you buy the deluxe edition of the book). This book contains all the current markets buying from freelancers, who to contact (names of editors = very important), and their pay rates. I think that it will be tough to make the kind of money you need online in the beginning. You will have to ramp up to the amount you need. It is doable, but it will be tough in the beginning. Just remember, you are building toward that, and make every piece you write the best you can. Work opportunities build from what you write.

Writing for print magazines pay far more than almost everything online. If you need to make good money you need to be writing articles for print.

Another site that I didn't see mentioned already is RentACoder: http://www.rentacoder.com The name of the site might make you think it is for programmers, but there are also people there looking for writers. I have had a few different writing jobs through RentACoder, all of which were a lot of fun and paid pretty well. You bid on projects, and the buyers will choose the bid they prefer. It can be a pretty easy way to make a little extra money that isn't just pennies!

I would like to keep an eye on this topic because I am looking for the same thing. I've had years of experience doing data entry and 10 key and have actually found legit companies to apply for but most of them are NOT taking applications. So, I considered doing telemarketing from home with West Telemarketing (I actually use to work there) but they don't support the Mac platform. I trust most the "mommy/work from home" forums. The trouble is finding ones that are hiring. Good luck slaveena!

There are some great ideas in this discussion! You might also try Squidoo - http://www.squidoo.com/lensmaster/referral/JulieandPico The big advantage is you get residual income. I've been on there a month and I haven't personally made any money (I've only written 2 lenses, mostly for fun) but some of my writer friends who have been lensmasters for quite a while make about $12 a month per lens (page) once they've learned what attracts readers in that market. This is residuals, not one time pay.
