The future of cd's

You know, I recently started buying cds again after having downloaded music for a long time and I feel that the quality is better. It makes me sad to read that some people believe cds are on their way out and soon as mp3 files don't take up physical space and are hauled around much more easily. My main problem with mp3 and other lossy formats is that I feel the quality is inferior to cd. Unless there was widespread use of lossless compression I don't want to make the switch, I enjoy carrying my physical cds with me, looking at the cases and so forth. How do you feel about cds? Do you still buy them pretty frequently? How does this compare to how many digital files of music you buy? What do you think the timetable for cds being phased out is? Do you even think they will be phased out ever?
