Dine and dash friends

Is it really fair to invite a friend to dinner when you know she's out of work and on a tight budget. And, then insist that she pay for her half of the meal. I thought invitations to dinner meant that the person doing the inviting, also did the paying.

I would assume if someone invited me to dinner then they would be payong and if I do the inviting I pay. I thought everyone knew that. If you invite someone you know is not working then of course you pay for it.
