DO BIRDS SING ONLY ON GREEN TREES?

Although birds have some sense to make a nest on tree or branches of trees, I doubt very much whether they sing only when they on green trees. They sing when it is required (to call the mates).

It is spring here where i live and the trees don't have any leaves yet. As I go for walks in the early morning I can hear the birds singing. They sing to mark off thier terratory and to call mates. I also like to think that they sing just for the pure joy of life.
