Do you prefer the book or the movie?

My fiance and I were watching "The Shining" on TV today, in between running errands. Neither of us had seen it for a while, and my fiance asked me a question about it. I answered, and then realized that my answer was really from my memory of the book, not the movie. As is often the case with Stephen King movie adaptations, they changed a few things here and there for the movie. I prefer the book, because it's got so much more detail to it. But I'm sure there are some people who prefer the movie. Which do you prefer? (For the record, I'm talking about the Jack Nicholson version, not the Steven Weber version.)

The book goes into a lot more detail, and they change bits here and there. Nothing major that I can recall, but just some of the details.

I definitely like the book better, it goes in so much detail and freaked em out when I read it. Also, the book was way more stimulating from a my imagination I felt like Stephen King makes the hotel come alive and evil wwhen he describes it where as the movie does it no justice.

Idefinitely prefer the book to the movie. Another book to movie that comes to mind is Thorn Birds. The movie was a mild disappointment.

The Movie completely sucked. I read the book and really liked it and was really exited about watching the movie. I was so dissapointed. I know in films they have to change some bits but the amount the changed was stupid. They Changed the forbidden room number. What was the point in that!? It was just annoying that the things that they could have kept they changed.

I prefer the movie. So much of what Stephen King writes cannot be expressed in a movie due to the ratings system imposed in most countries, particularly in America. As for his movies, the Jack Nicholson version of The Shining is my favorite, due to it more closely following the book than any of the other movies do, in my opinion.

I definitely prefer the book. The book is always better. I actually hated the Jack Nicholson version of The Shining. I was so pleased when Stephen King later done a made for tv remake. I loved it (and have it on dvd) and believe it should've been done that way in the first place.

Hi Scarywhitegirl I prefer the book but in order to put it into a movie they have to edit a few things or the movie will be a week long movie lol. Stephen Kings books are known to be very long novels because he gets so deep into each and every character before you know it he has dedicated 5 chapters to one characters background. That is the only thing that I don't like about his books they are waaaaay to long!
