Well it isn't for real, but FAKE would definitely be a strong word. It's definitely a form of entertainment, but in my opinion it's also a sport. The outcomes of wrestling matches are predetermined, but everything that the wrestlers do during the match is their own choice - they decide what move to apply etc. And of course, they train real long and real hard to make these moves seem as realistic, but also as safe as possible. Also, the injuries that happen to the wrestlers are in most cases real, unless they are done in order to create some storyline angle.

Of course, the opinion about it varies from person to person. I guess wrestling is one of those things that people either love or hate, there are on in-betweeners.

You could say it's a show but at the same time, the wrestlers do get hurt. Sometimes there's blood involved and that can be real. Injuries also happen at any given time and time off is needed. You could say it's a mix because while some of the matches are determined in advance, it also has people getting hurt as well. There's no stunt doubles taking shots and multiple takes to get a scene just right. It's one shot in the ring and no screwing up or else you'll never hear the end of it. That's about the best way I could put it.

It would be a show but I agree that fake is too strong for a description. The basics are still within the grounds of the actual sport. Furthermore the hazards are for real and the wrestlers get injured every now and then. They risk the same parts of the body as the same people do in MMA.

While there is no doubt about the athleticism of the wrestlers it's still a show. How would they do at real wrestling such as occurs at the Olympics ?
