I think everyone started Shy from childhood but as we grow we build our confidence especially on how we are brought up with our parents. Also during high school and college we have engaged into lots of reporting and presentations. At work too, still deep inside there are some who still fell that NERVOUS feeling before the actually presentation. Have you really overcome this feeling? You still feel it once in a while.
Me once in awhile i do, but when im EXTREMELY prepared it is very minimal. I think preparation matters when doing a presentation and it helps too.
What about you? When did you overcome it? Or are you really into Public Speaking? If you are, what are your tips for us who still feel nervous speaking in public?

i must admit that i am pretty embarassed that at my current age, i have still not yet overcome my fear of public speaking completely. although it is not as bad as when i was much younger, when i would just freeze up in front of my audience, i will still get very nervous and sweaty palms whevenever i have to give any speech at all. even giving a short sppech to a classroom in school can get me all nervous and jittery, i hope i can overcome this fear soon and be able to effectively communicatie through public speaking.

Have you heard of Toastmasters? www.toastmasters.org
It is the premier organization in the world for public speaking.
I have stopped my membership for several years already but I was active for 5 or 6 years before that. So public speaking is not really a problem for me. And yes, I do agree that preparation is very important, especially if you are speaking on a topic that is not second nature to you. :P
