Is your cat a picky eater?

Ours is. He likes variety. We found a new food--a Whiskas in a pouch. It is a fish...just slides out easy in one moist piece. Our cat just loves it! I'm so glad he's not spoiled or anything, but at 17, what else is there to do but eat and sleep? LOL

My cat wouldn't even try that Whiskas stuff! She only likes Fancy Feast type canned food. I can get away with the Dominick's brand. She totally prefers salmon but will tolerate other flavors. She seems to like the shredded ones next best. She is 4. She also doesn't like to eat it if she has left it too long and it gets dry. She also doesn't like shrimp and lobster. She does like Wheat Thins.

Awww - 17 is a great age for a cat! I guess my oldest cat Sasha is quite a picky eater - he had feline leukaemia when he was a kitten, and ever since then, he has had quite a delicate stomach. He has to eat special dietary food, and if he triues anything else he is invariably sick! My others will eat anything though!

I have dog.I got 2 kittens not too long ago.Anyway I put the kitten food on the table so the dog won't get it.But it seems that I see the kittens eating the dog food more that their own.I guess food is food for my weird kittens. But I do spoil them once in a while with tuna.

My cat eats anything she can get her paws on. We haven't found a cat food yet that she didn't like. And she eats dog food a lot, too. And any people food she can get ahold of. Her and our small dog once ate almost an entire 2 lb loaf of french bread. My husband left it out on the counter and he came back about an hour later, and all that was left was crumbs! The cat got up and knocked it off the counter, and her and the dog shared it.

At 17, I think your kitty should get to be as picky as he likes. That is a great age! Does he still have all of his teeth?

Yes, he is hubby's baby for sure. And he sleeps with us sometimes. The vet never said otherwise, so we think he has all of his teeth, but he has a hard time with hard food, so not sure.

My cat is a bit finicky too, but I think most cats are. My cat only likes Friskies dry cat food and nothing else will do. In fact, he gets really ticked off if the store is out of that brand and we buy something else. He will actually go on a hunger strike! How in the world do they get so big for their britches?

Ours eat pretty much what we give them since they know that there will be nothing else if they don't eat. We do not cater to them and know if they lived outside then their meals would not be regular. Just their nature really. We do try for variety however on our schedule. Good luck with your elder cat. I pray he lasts long and is comfortable til the end.

Awwwww....how sweet. At his age, he deserves all the spoiling he can get. LOL Most of my cats are pretty snooty about their food. It's Cat Chow, Friskies, or NOTHING! They actually try to hide the food all over the house if it's something that they don't like. You wouldn't believe some of the places that I have found pieces of cat food hidden.

10yr. old Lightning playing with 6mo. old Tigger - After a month of adjustment, these 2 love playing and snuggling together. Now if I can just get my daughter's cat to accept Tigger...ughhhhhh!!
I only have one picky cat but only because he has trouble picking up the food out of the self-feeder and needs it either on the floor or a plate. Lightning is 10yrs old and has all his teeth but for some reason started having this problem about a year ago. I feed all three dry food with the seniors on their special food and the kitten on his food. He goes to his room to eat then learned how to open the door when he is done. Now if he can learn to shut it afterwards so the other 2 don't eat his kitten food. lol

I'll have to try that on my son's cat the next time I go to vistit. He is kind of spoiled, and if you give him something he doesn't like, he will complain.

Our cats are beyond finicky. They love whiskas treats and come running when they hear the packet open. They love one food one day and then the next they hate it. It drives us nuts, They love the whiskas in a pouch sometimes too. Sometimes I just wish they would eat anything I give them. But I guess that is what makes cats, cats.

My cat is only 4 1/2. He's a picky spoiled rotten little thing. I can't imagine what he'll be like at 17. (I told him he had to live to be 20, so he better live to be 17!). He is very very picky about wet cat food. He only likes a certain texture. Meow Mix, "What's the Catch?" is his favorite. Sometimes he'll eat the other flavors but rarely. He only likes wet food in flakes. If it's the wrong texture he wants nothing to do with it. Dry food, which he mainly eats, he lives off of Science Diet, the one in the beige package, not the white. I forget what it's called. He won't eat the little round green pieces though.

I did see that the other day. We may be switching to that. Since the Nutro was recalled, we have been using the Mewo-Mix in a pouch, but the cats are starting to reject it. Plus, they are shedding a lot more and their coats just don't look as good. The Meow-Mix is suppose to be really good food to. It is all real chicken, tuna, etc with few preservatives but it doesn't have all the greens and whatnot. I am dragging my hubby to the pet store later in the week to pick out new food. FYI if you have a Petsmart near by they have a buy 2 get one free on those pouches and some of the money goes to charity. I think they have some deal with one of the Purina dry cat food as well.

Oh wow he is really an old cat. I have 3 of them and all of them are picky. They all like something different. Its really a pain in the butt shopping for them. Because sometimes one store wont have what I want. So then I will have to go to another store.LOL But I would do it for them I do love them. And Im sure you love yours.

My cat(s) are extremly picky, they might like the fish flavor for a day and then they are done with it and want something different, I have gone to buying Friskies since it is cheaper than the Whiskas and they don't devour it like the Whiskas. The Friskies comes in several varieties sliced, shredded and regular, they like the slice but not for any length of time, usually a few days so I am forced to buy all the different varities and I still get one of my cats (my white cat) that he is not pleased with his food and wants something different. There is no pleasing them I am convinced.

Sometimes. If i am sitting at my computer having a bite, I have the dog by my side rolling her sad eyes as if she hasn't eaten in 5 days and the small cat just hops up on the desk and starts sampling my food. You know, dipping in the front paw to get a taste...lol. I usually feed both cats the Purina cat chow called Indoor Formula. They both like it pretty well. But the dog loves it and uses every chance to gobble up whatever she can.

I free feed my cats so they get the same kind of dry food all the time. I know it would be better if I didn't free feed, but with 25 cats I just don't have time for a life & feeding the cats.

Our picky eater - Here's our picky eater, Thomas. Man, is he ever a vocal cat when he doesn't get his way! :)
HI esterlou! I swear I have the pickiest eater on the planet. We started feeding our cats IAMS cat food, because their poop didn't stink as bad with it, as it did with other, cheaper brands of cat food. Well, about a month ago, I didn't have enough money to get a $30 bag of IAMS, so I bought the $8 store brand cat food. Our older cat, doesn't care. She eats it, I don't think she likes it, but she eats it. Out tom cat, who is 3 years old, meows, howls, whines about this new food. He refuses to eat the stuff. Even now, when I Mix the IAMS with the cheaper stuff, he has his fit to tell me he doesn't like it. He's almost worse than the kids!
