what if someone stole your idea?

will you be mad? sharing your learnings and experiences is just normal but what if you share them in a nice way and then they just stole your idea? I think I will get mad for sometime for my idea is mine and the other person must come up with his own idea. Don't be a copy cat for it will take you to nowhere. My feelings about this is just normal right? If you are in my situation and someone stole your idea and applied it as his own, you will really get mad. I am not a secretive person when it comes to giving out some nice ideas and options I think. I share them to anybody who needs it but this one really made me say "the nerve!" ha ha! well, you see I am now laughing, it will just fade away soon. From now on, I will be more secure on my ideas. I better think first before sharing it. It is like, I found a treasure all by myself and someone stole it from me. Omgeee.. *sigh*

If that happens to me ,it sure will bother me atleast for sometime and I might never again give out an idea to that person because the trust factor will be lost. However,I am usually generous with sharing whatever I know :-P I don't think one stolen idea will affect me so bad that I bottle myself up with the fright of being cheated with my ideas. As long as my brain doesn't choke,I can still churn a fountain of ideas to profit from , but initially it sure will make me mad.

I think it would certainly upset me if they stole my idea after I shared it with someone. I think I would be more hurt than angry at first though. To trust someone with a thought or idea and trust that they won't take that from you, it hurts to find out otherwise. But trust in this, you reap what you sow. Just trust in time and the higher power, it will come back on them ten fold. I am sorry this happened to you! You are such a kind and nice person.

You are right, it takes a lot for people to trust someone with their thoughts and ideas, and for that person to betray you is so hurtful. I hope that it is resolved and you have moved on. It is a life lesson we must all learn, just take this and be more careful in the future!

Of course, I would be mad. Imagine someone is using my idea when in fact it is my own. That person is hypocrite and cannot be trusted anymore.

There have been numerous occasions where people have taken credit for things I have done or said. I do not have a problem with this because I believe that in the context of just ideas for problem solving, eventually, you will be noticed. However, when it comes to inventions or the like, it get's a bit tricky because they may be some monetary/significant compensation for the time and effort put into creating the object in question. I think I would definitely try to get some kind of recorgnition in such cases.

this is the sad part about losing an idea. since it has been claimed by someone else already, that someone else will rake in the credit for it along with hte monetary considerations.

If we were working on something together and he took my idea as his and went solo then I would be very upset. A group project should stay a group project, but even there you should submit ideas on paper with your name so you have a claim to it. Some people just have no scrupples about what they do so protect yourself always.

Well, unfortunately that happens no matter where you are, especially if you are online. I have had a couple of my discussions Copied from time to time, and unless you can prove it sometimes it is just something that a person will tend to do and get away with until caught. To me, it is a shame when you can take an idea that is someone else's and use it for your own, especially when it is monitary. But I feel what goes around does come around and if you steal you will end up getting caught. It would be only a matter of time, so why do it?

I would report that someone to the admin. He he he! Since I am really confrontational, I would just PM that someone and tell her or him what I think. It just nag at me if ever someone do that to me. I have to hear his/her side of story just to settle my mind.

Plagarism of any form, is most condemned by all. Steeling others idea and getting credits to their account is some thing obtrusive. But sucha a kinda person will not shine in days ahead as he/she will get exposed sooner.

I have noticed a mylotter who was angry on her post because somebody copied her post and reposted it again, the subject is changed. Well, we can really have our own idea. I'll get angry at first if someone stole my idea. I would say, it is not easy to think your brilliant topics, I mean, for me, I am getting trouble about posting topics, topics that are different, catchy... etc. As I said, I'll get mad at first but it's not right. I'd rather share my ideas no matter what other people is doing about your post.

This has happened to me and I get very mad. It seems so many people cant think things up for themselves. I am now a lot more guarded over my ideas and wont share them until just before Im about to do it. You lose trust in people because of things such as this.

Jokingly speaking: copyright your ideas to prevent from someone stealing it. Seriously speaking, nothing new under the son. If your idea is stolen by someone, think of something new afresh.

Put the man into shame by calling him and improving on your stolen idea. In his life time he will not do it again.

i always feel frustrated when someone steals my idea especially if he/she's a friend i thought i could trust. sometimes, we should try and keep things to ourselves but there are times when we feel so excited to share them to people. little we know, they don't just listen... but they are trying to get your idea and make them their own.

yeah it does hurt, i have had it once happen but i got over it as i was much younger. but i think now i would go right of the handle (depending the idea) if i was minor then i would be ok and get over it as growing up and just be mature about things.

i will surely be mad myself. there are a lot of persons around who are on the lookout for ideas. yes, we must take care that our ideas are secured before revealing them to anyone at all. you can notice how robbers of ideas have flourished even here in mylot alone. a good idea lost, has made a person known to me, to cost him more than a million dollars. the man is now a millionaire, the man who stole his idea. so be careful especially on some book ideas that you have. you might think that you are only coming up with a children's book anyway. but when it becomes a hit, it can rake in millions in royalties.

this is very true especially at work. you have to talk to the right person so nobody else can say it's their idea and that's what they did before or whatever. TEven your boss could end up stealing your idea, saying it's his, just so he doesn't look stupid or not able to contribute to the company. yes, please be secure about your ideas next time! I think if it's mylot, you can report to them if anyone copy and paste your topic, but otherwise I don't know how.

Well of course! It's really unfair because you used up your mind just to carry it out from it. And then only other people will get the credits? No way!!!! Actually, I am not the type of person who easily give ideas unless I am being asked. I had this experience wherein, I almost put myself to danger because of having my ideas being stolen. And I really concluded that great ideas must not be shared to others unless you are fully done with it. Another thing, some people may get your ideas, though they don't have the intention to get the same thing from you. But the sad reality there is that, they could even improve it, and when the product will be compared to yours, theirs will appear much better. And instead of giving the credits to you, they will be the ones recognized for having such idea.

yes that is so true. They get some of your idea, improvise it and then it is far from your original idea so you have no choice about it.. sad part of life
