Who can you trust?

Of the following which one would you trust more and why? clergy, lawyer, doctor, journalist, politician, or teacher. At one time I would have said a clergyman, but with all the clergy abuse lawsuits filed. For years people have been told “trust me, I’m a doctor,” yet I can think of a number of cases of medical malpractice which has resulted in my having a hard time trusting doctors and it is so sad to read the news and hear of all the cases involving teachers being charged with sexually abusing students. So, who would you trust more and why?

I dont really trust any of them to be honest. Lawers are in it for the money and would shaft you to get it. Politicians are in it for money as well and will lie cheat and steal to get it. A journalist will destroy your reputation for a good story. Teachers are in a position to teach our kids falsehoods and undermind anything you do at home to help your kids. Not only that but like you said, they are in a particular stance for other criminal acts towards our kids. Clergy.... Im Christian, but i dont rely on priest or any church members to tell me how God wants things done, they are subject to sin as well I. I leave it between me and God to work things out.

It brings up a good question, can we really trust anyone?

Of course, we still can, but not all. We can't just make a sweeping generalization for ALL professionals. Sometimes we have to trust in order to be trusted.

It really depends because any group of professionals may have "bad eggs", just like what you have mentioned. But all things being equal (like they are all good, with no track record of badness), I would choose any religious--either priests or nuns, with a special preference for nuns...I am working in a university ran by nuns, that's why I could trust our own nuns even with my life (been working there for the past 23 years, and still counting).Next, I trusted my surgeons (been operated twice) where at certain points, I also trusted them with my life when I went through the knife...Excuse me but I don't have much trust for lawyers, however, I'm sure there are the good ones, but based on my personal experience, they will be last on my list.

I guess you are right. We cannot allow a few bad apples to spoil the bushel. Thank you for replying to my discussion.

We can't trust people with their profession. We can trust only caring & loving people who have good attitude.

Right. We have to trust the person before the profession even enters as a factor.

Hi swtrose great discussion. I would have to answer, Your self. If you do not do your home work and just blindly go ahead and trust all of the above then you more or less get what happens to you, I have found that most people do not want to go to the trouble of doing their own research, and study, they ask their friends, a referral service, a family member, rather than get off their butts and do the work them selves. and of course can blame the person or the source when every thing goes down the toilet. So to answer your question I would trust all of them after I did my own work. Robin

Excellent question! I have to say though that I trust no one based on their title. I never have! My mother use to call me a true Doubting Thomas when I was growing up. I trust no one until I see they are trust worthy. Is that sad or what? Because I am sure more people are trustworthy then I sometimes think. I don't think it is a good thing to be so mistrusting of people do you? But like you incinuated in your post; who can be trusted?

In today's society it is indeed difficult to know who to trust....I would have to say teacher...I know that there have been many scandels of late ....but I have a habit of knowing my children's teachers...whenever I have a concern..I will make an appointment to meet with them..so I am confident that my children have nothing to worry about with their particular teachers.... Each of these groups will always have some who ar good and some who are bad...it is also a shame that the majority of the acknowledgement most loudly spoken about any of them is the negative things...we rarely hear the positive things....

Isn't that funny- I had to really think about this one- And then I second guessed my choice and changed my answer at least 3 times- Trust is a huge issue- You are right- Clergy- not likely anymore- thanks to the pervs that molested little boys-- and the cover ups!- Politicians- Never- I think in order to be one- you have to be able to pull the wool over peoples eyes- Lawyers- ok now there job is to get their client off-- so where is the trust there?? those 3 were easy to me- Journalist- Well really it depends on who do they write for- or which station do they report on- I think most information we see is sugar coated at times- I trust my doctor-- 99%- but all doctors- Thats a tough one- just for the reason you stated- Malpractice- Sure everyone is entitled to make mistakes- but some make too many and they are life threatening- Teachers- I've never had a bad one yet- I trust my daughters teachers also- So my answer would be teachers- I live in a small town- and 3 of my cousins are teachers in the school district- I trust them all- Teachers as a whole- I'm not too sure of- I can only say I trust ours.

I probably would give my trust to no-one, until I get to know them... It is not the profession but it is the character, and morals of the individual

I am going to say Teachers. The reason why I picked this was because I believe teachers do mean well and are trust worthy. Considering many teach young children I am going to hold out hope that they are honest and it's a wise decision to trust them. There are bad apples with any bunch but I rarely have seen then with teachers.

Trust that come from your heart always tells about the attachment that would believe in yourself or others. Trust tells about the peoples relations whether it is a doctor, lawyer, journalist, politician or teacher. I always trust my doctor because when he treats me within a day i was able get better from illness. When you put trust to some one then you will become part of it.

I've had bad experiences with doctors and even a few with teachers. Politicians are out because they say whatever you want to hear. But my father is a pastor and I trust him completely. Obviously, he isn't a Catholic because he is married, so he doesn't come from a "group" or denomination known for child abuse. A lot of his friends are pastors as well and I have trusted them in situations over my head. So I would say clergy, but I completely understand anyone's choice to disagree.

interresting topic, and a good one. I'd be hard pressed to trust any of them. Although when one of them are required the first impression in how they respond to me is the clue. Your inner guidence will let you know. So I would trust myself above all else. My instinct, gut feeling. Although politicians and lawyers are pretty close match on trying to con you. I've dealt with enough of them, to many in fact.

Trust yourself and quite agree with you, but you have to have a teacher to study, a doctor to get you well the rest can wait for their turns according to situation.
