What exactly is wrong with wearing socks with sandals?

I've often heard, mostly men, saying it's 'strange' for someone to wear socks with sandals. I being someone who has done this and of course considering myself strange anyway, wonder what the deal is. Anyone have a clue?

To me it just seems like it defeats the purpose of wearing sandals. I wear sandles when the weather is hot so my feet will be cool as possible.

That is a good point too. Sandals were meant for hotter climes. Still, ever had your feet rubbed raw by a brand new pair of sandals?

Thanks for the input babyboo! Yeah definitely it should be a choice whether to wear socks are not. it may defeat the original purpose of sandals but it serves a purpose all its own.

Well I wear socks with Crocs! I'm walking around in Total Comfort not caring what others think. Whats wrong with This? I've also heard that its not shick for a man to wear white socks. But most of my socks are white. I guess I'm just out of Date!

I can happily wear any color socks and simply not care. The fashion police will never catch me because I have hiding places all over. bahawahahahaha

I think it is because, like someone else said, they are supposed to keep your feet cool. It is a fashion no-no but if you like to wear socks with them I say go ahead! Just make sure you avoid the fashion police, LOL!

Well, I dont think it is strange. I think some people do like to wear socks like that because they feel more comfortable and it does not irritate their feet.

Exactly I wore a pair of sandals the other day and now I have a small scar on the side of my foot were it rubbed the skin off after a few minutes. I ended up waling barefoot the rest of the day. If i'd worn socks, it wouldn't have happened.

For some people this is still a big no-no, but I've never heard a sensible reason why. My main rule in life is to break rules, anyway, so I don't think twice about wearing whatever is comfortable. Thinking back, I can remember a time long ago when I would not have worn socks with sandals because of the fashion police, but now I live in the desert and sandals are the only kind of shoes I own. If the weather is cool or if I'm walking someplace dusty, I will wear socks with them, usually bright ones in a color to match my top.
