Currently, I am using a free-version antivirus, which is Avira AntiVir Personal Classic Edition. I have been using this one for over a long period of time. Since then, I have never had problems at all with regards to the system performance of my machine. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with this. It updates regularly and can be scheduled at your most convenient time. It is very light on resources and does not use a lot of memory. Hence, does not slow down your computer. It deletes and detects rootkits, viruses, worms, etc. Hope this would help. Have a nice day!

Well, it's actually no point in coughing up money big time for some softwares when there are Free alternatives, which are not just free, but many many times more effective. I have used AVG Free Anti-Virus, and it's simply marvelous, and so is Active Virus Shield, which runs Kaspersky Engine. But my personal favorite is Avast Free Anti-Virus, which can do a lot more efficient job than something like Zone Alarm. And speaking of ZA, I simply loathe it for pestering me with pop-ups asking what to do with IE or Firefox. And it taxes the system Memory, very unlike these free AV's which are very very quick and light on resources. Have a nice day.
